This is an amazing place to go stay. I've been to a lot of different places in my travels, and I have to say this one will always stand out to me in the forefront. I found this place after working in Grand junction and I needed a place to stay for the night. The drive to it was nerve wracking and full of snowy slopes and cliffside views at night, and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! When I arrived the lodge was closed but they a my key and a map to my cabin hanging on the hooks outside of the main office and I didn't have a hard time finding my cabin at all. They plow the roads to the cabins in the winter so you're not stuck in 5 foot snow piles along your way! The cabin was cozy and had a wood burning stove inside of it that I lit immediately. Everything about the place is picturesque, from the silence of the woods, to the snow covered roof and woods, the comfortable bed. If you're ever driving through I highly recommend coming here, no actually I'd say you'd be a fool not to stop here! I wished I could of stayed longer but alas work called me away to Breckenridge in the morning and the first chance I get I'll be back for a week or two in the winter!

My family came to have a nice mountain retreat and we were so excited to check out our little cabin 12. Two rooms with queen beds, a bathroom and kitchen with a small dining table and a futon in the living area. Some renovations are definitely needed, but it was cozy and we had a blast! There is a Stage 1 fire ban so no campfire, grill or open flame was allowed. That put a damper on things, but luckily there is a stove to cook on that saved our food dilemma. Staff at the lodge was so nice and helpful and that made the trip even more enjoyable. There was a bear that tore into the dumpster one night and then we saw him the next night right by our cabin! He was sweet and stayed in the trees scratching his backside on a stump. The lake is a decent hike down from the cabin, so be ready with good shoes and water. The road to island lake itself was closed for maintenance so that’s the only way to get down there currently. All in all it was a great time and we can’t wait to come back!

Grand Mesa Lodge has 14 humble cabins that were built in the 1930s and 1940s. They still retain their rustic charm. There are 2 motel rooms also available. The furnishings are simple, quaint, mixed-and-matched odds and ends that are functional. The owners, Mike and Rose, assure that the cabins, although rustic, are clean with fresh towels and linens. After all, you don't go to the Grand Mesa, the largest flat-top mountain in the world, to sit in a cabin! Go outside and get on a snowmobile, snowshoes, cross-country skis, take the kids sledding, ice fishing, fly fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, flora and fauna identification, and of course hunting. You can purchase your fishing and hunting licenses at the Lodge's convenience store. There is a gift shop and artwork from local artisans. The pottery hand warmer mugs are cool too!

Back in February I called this lodge to reserve the beautiful wedding arbor on the property. I reserved the arbor for sept 21st and paid the down payment on the phone. We were all set and I was so excited. I have been raving about this venue to all my guests for weeks. I also booked cabins for the night before and paid for an EXTRA night we didn’t need, but had to have a 2 night minimum, because I wanted to support this business. Getting our keys for our cabins was a hassle in itself as there were no keys set out for us…

Apparently they double booked us! During our ceremony some very unpleasant and disrespectful lady (I don’t know if she is an employee or from the other wedding party) drove up on a loud razor and attempted to stop our wedding DURING THE CEREMONY! Thankfully a couple guests stopped her from doing so. As my husband and I walked back down our aisle celebrating this lady APPROACHED ME DIRECTLY asking for proof of our reservations and told us that we needed to leave immediately becasue we weren’t on the list. We showed the lodge proof of our deposit and a email about our booking. I guess they use a 3rd party booking system/person, or have two separate systems, which clearly causes issues. When I booked, they said the lodge itself was booked but the arbor wasn’t (we didn’t need the lodge) so we were all set to reserve it. They couldn’t find our transactions on their end. I can only imagine how stressed the other wedding party was as they were scrambling to figure stuff out. It’s bad enough that one wedding day was messed with but because it was double booked it affected 2 weddings. I hope they got refunded as well.

EDIT While it was confusing and chaotic trying to figure everything out at the lodge the day of, we were called a few days later by someone else, who did know what was going on. They were finally able to find our transactions and we were refunded. Elizabeth was very apologetic and very understanding on the phone, as she was also the person who helped us get our keys for our cabins. I am very understanding of double bookings, the issue was just how it was handled the day of. We appreciate them working with us to rectify the situation! I don’t think I’ve ever left a bad review in my life because I hate being that person, but hopefully because of this everyone will quadruple check bookings. Especially for things...

Recently stayed in Cabin 3 with my wife and dog and had a great weekend! All the staff I encountered were super friendly and helpful! Can't beat the location either! Free wifi and firewood for sale on site were helpful!

Restaurant was super basic...some room for improvement there, but "A for effort". Good value for the food, but limited menu and not the highest quality. I think that needs to be said. Convenient though!

Cabin 3 was quite rustic...like old school Colorado rustic. Just don't expect you're getting a yuppie little AirBnb type cabin...not exactly glamping like a lot of people probably expect these days from social media, but close enough. Sure beats a tent on the ground though for fair weather campers like me! I was grateful for the fire pit, kitchen, couch, bathroom, shower, and bed. Some features were a bit dated, but that's ok. Some more pictures on their website would have been helpful. Stairs were a little short and tight, so if you have issues with those you may need to find a 1 story cabin instead. I would also say that if you have more than three adults, probably need to think about multiple cabins...but Cabin 3 was on the smaller side. When we return with friends we'll try a larger cabin.

Bottom line is that this is a hidden gem in a cool area of Colorado for sure, we had a great experience, and I want places like this to succeed and stay around! I will be sure to be back, this time with a little more base knowledge on the property so I'm a little more prepared for my...
