If you want a fun-filled afternoon in a peaceful mountain creek, I have the place for you. About half an hour outside of Pinetop-Lakeside there is a beautiful creek that is perfect for families to spend the day at. Paradise Creek runs through the area and provides ample opportunity for kids of all ages to play. We went with three other families and had 10 kids ranging in age from 2.5 months to 5. Everyone was able to splash, jump, and explore the shallow creek. I’m almost done listening to Jonathan Haidt’s Anxious Generations and I can’t help but feel like the 3 hours we spent at this creek were the perfect way for our children to see curiosity and make dangerous decisions in a safe environment. If you’re in the White Mountains in the summer, add this location to your itinerary. You don’t have to bring anything with to enjoy the day, but we were glad we packed a lunch, brought along some nets, and had water blasters to play with. I also recommend bringing a large trash bag so you don’t leave a trace. This area is beautiful and needs to stay clean. There isn’t a marked area for this part of the creek on Google Maps. I’ll share how we got there in a separate reel tomorrow. When in doubt, head toward Hawley Lake and stop along the way when you see a place you’d enjoy spending the day. #paradisecreek #whitemountains #arizona #travel #travelwithkids #explorearizona

I grew up camping in Greer, my husband grew up camping here are Hawley and introduced me to it. It's beautiful! The sunrise is gorgeous, the sunsets are breathtaking. I love being by the water. We've never had any issues with other campers being too loud, as the camp host seems to stay on top of things. They do have restrooms here (porta potty) and they for the most part are always clean and well maintained. The campground is kept up. The cows used to swarm the campgrounds a lot, but I have noticed they put up a fence so I'm guessing that will help with the problems. They do not offer hook ups or water here but it's a wonderful camping experience none the less.

I am in heaven. First time here and I am so very appreciative to the Apache Nation for allowing us to be here. A place for everyone to enjoy everything natural. So many hawks here. We went fishing for brown and rainbow trout. No dice. Yet. Permits only available at the store. Be nice and be respectful to everyone. Enjoy.

It's far enough so people don't flood the lake and take cash cause they don't take debit or credit. Camping is good but tables at camp site are not maintained and often broken. Porta pottys are throughout campsites. Fishing is the only activity promoted regularly and you can rent a boat half day (4 hrs) or full day. Note, they offer half or full days but we found they open late mornings at 10 am ; if you pay for half day they mark your boat ticket for "9am to 1pm" (automatically you lose 1 hour). Also, people that rent boats for afternoon they pay for full day but the dock require turn-in by 430pm... losing up to 2 hours of the expected "full-day" the renters expect. The store does not inform visitors accurately of the times lines when paying... ask questions so your not paying for something that you will not get ($50 for halfday WITH trolling motor ... which you will want). Watch out for the cows as they roam free and WILL get into your camp food... they are brave. It's beautiful country and worth a night or two under the stars. The store has minimal fishing supplies and food. They have snacks, soda machine, beer, and...

2 things.

Bears. Rain.

This campground is absolutely beautiful. But I will be very honest, the bears and the amount of rain sort of ruins it.

You will have a bear come through your camp, they cannot be avoided. I kept all of my food in my car, and one still came through and destroyed all my water. They’re being a huge problem this year.

Also, you will more than likely get rained on. It does not matter how sunny or hot it is in the valley, this location is nothing like the rest of Arizona . It’s cold, damp, and very rainy.

I came at the end of August, the hottest part of the entire year, and it never reached above 75° and my entire camp got soaked.

So if you don’t like bears and rain, I would avoid this campground. Plus, it’s incredibly difficult to get out here if you’re traveling from the valley The trip will take you an entire day, one way.

Honestly, this campground is more of a RV camp spot, it can accommodate tents, but the amount of rain and bears is a little bit unfriendly for...

This area was gorgeous and full of the natural beauty that the white mountains are known for. The large mountian lake attracts hords of crowds for camping and recreation. I gave this campground 3 stars, only because of the crowded conditions, which doesn't suit my taste in camping, especially since there are no hook ups or freshwater. There were many families with children running wild and people drinking and partying till the wee hours of the morning. There were also more bugs than normal, as would be expected near a stagnant body of water. We paid $9 for one night at the local shop by the base of the mountain, near the Sunrise Ski resort entrance. The shop keeper was not very helpful and rushed us out...
