The High Plains Drift Inn. Difficult to find where to begin when thinking about reviewing this place. I have had the pleasure of experiencing it all! The horse back riding lessons, the hunting, the lodging, the food, the animals, the campfires. This ranch offers year-round activities and learning opportunities for the entire family. And even after all these wonderful things…I have yet to mention the most important and impressive of it all, the Family. I had never met a more caring, loving and hard working people! They take pride in everything they do and offer and it shows! I am very grateful that I have been able to enjoy this ranch as much as I have. I was able to learn to ride a horse in a short amount of time thanks to their personalized approach to the riding lessons. I had never seen horses so gentle in my life, and it shows just how incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in horse training and riding they are at this ranch. I myself am hoping to be able to purchase my own horse soon and of course I will be coming to The High Plains Drift Inn for that! I also had the privilege of hunting at the High Plains Drift Inn last year and it was an amazing experience. I was able to hear and see MANY elk, even during the difficult third rifle season. I was not experienced or quick enough to be able to get one but that’s okay with me, especially since statistics show it should take like 7 years before being able to harvest an elk. The fact that I even saw them was unexpected and I will never forget it. I learned a lot by staying at this ranch and I am definitely going back this year and trying it again! During my visits to this ranch, I have also been able to enjoy many of their delicious ranch style home-made dishes and I always look forward to the next mouthwatering meal! I have been coming out here for a few years now and I was even able to purchase a beautiful shepherd from them for companionship and protection (and he is one of the most amazing dogs I have ever owned!). Last but definitely not least, thanks to The High Plains Drift Inn and the family that runs in, I was even able to get away from my stressful daily routine to go on an out of this world mountain horse trip that led to some of best memories I have ever made. I am fortunate that I can travel to see this amazing family often and I cannot express how grateful I am for everything I have learned and experienced out there. I am especially grateful to RV, the owner and founder of it all, as he has been front and center in making all these things possible for me and everyone who comes through here. His passion and love for helping others is always an inspiration and I look forward to his stories and conversation every time I make it out there. Truly, there is no better place to stay at, hunt at, eat at, ride at, etc. than this beautiful ranch. So if you are looking for a unique and wholesome experience look no further than The High Plains Drift Inn. You will...
Read moreRV and everyone at High Plains Drift Inn are simply AMAZING humans!! Such good vibes from everyone there...they really go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome and well taken care of, and they clearly do the same for their horses!
I first contacted RV and Eleeshea about two of the horses they had listed for sale, and immediately got such a good feeling about them. I knew right away that RV is a real straight shooter, a genuine old-school cowboy who's probably forgotten more about horses than most people know, and he's such a joy to talk with!
My husband and I went down there with our 5 children (ages 5 - 15) to meet and ride the horses, and RV wasn't content to just let us see the two we were interested in, he suggested several beauties that might be good family horses... he really wanted to be sure we would go home with the ones who were best suited to our needs and that everyone's personalities meshed well. I know RV wouldn't have sold us any of his horses if he felt we wouldn't give them a good home. (maybe that's why Mr Unknown in that other review was so salty?? just sayin')
RV's team of wranglers saddled up all the horses for us to ride, coached my kids on riding, and we all had the best time! My kids just love RV and everyone there, they're awesome with children. We ended up falling in love with the two horses we originally went down to see, and decided to come back another day to pick them up.
When we returned to pick up the horses, it was the same warm, welcoming feeling we got before. They helped us fit our brand new tack to the boys, and saddled up so we could ride again and just be 100% sure these were the ones for us. We enjoyed every moment of our time there, and were invited to come back anytime.
After we got the horses home, RV checked in with us to be sure they were settling in ok, and any time I have questions I can call him and he's happy to help. We still touch base just to talk, even if it's not really about the horses - RV and his family are just such good people!! We are planning a trip down there with the horses just to see them again and hang out.
We absolutely adore our horses, they're so sweet-natured and well trained by RV's gentle methods that even my beginner kids have no problem riding them... even the mustang who wasn't necessarily a "kids horse" is so sweet and thoughtful, he knows who is on his back and acts accordingly. Our veterinarian (who runs an equine rescue) was amazed at how healthy and well behaved they are, and told me that we got them at a steal of a deal... and our farrier says the same thing. If we ever want to add another horse to our herd, or know anyone who needs horses, I wouldn't think twice...

His animals were aggressive toward me and my animals they listened in to our cabin and talked to us about how they felt about what they heard the next day I went to partake in the local legality of a certain green plant in my own vehicle and was stared at the whole time gorgeous scenery not worth the harassment and bigotry I often suggest this place to my friends when they complain about their recent travel experience as a way to show them it could've been worse and don't get me started on the ridiculous bible study at every meal that you just have to participate in if you want to eat there talk about "read the bible 8 times in 8 months and see if you can throw it away" I threw it away rv I threw it away thank you for a terrible experience for my first...
