TRAVELER BEWARE: DO NOT IGNORE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!
This place was horrible! This campground is right on the edge of Canyonlands National Park. We had planned on stopping here for a couple of nights during our trip through Utah and Arizona during the summer of 2013. The reviews on Yelp and Trip Adviser were so-so. Many negative reviews and a few oddly positive. In the spirit of adventure, we ignored the negative reviews and decided that we would stay here anyway. Our rationale, if it was bad, we'd be gone during the day exploring and it wouldn't matter anyway. Who stays in the campground all day? Especially when its 105 outside.
This was by far the worst experience campground I have ever had. I have been to some bad campgrounds, but I have never felt unsafe at a campground until coming here. The grounds themselves looked empty aside from a lone gas pump priced at 7 dollars per gallon. "Not too bad, we don't need gas anyway," I thought.
We quickly discovered the source of all of the negative reviews. The camp hostess, Tracey, was off her rocker, and that's putting it nicely. She yelled at us as soon as we stepped through the door. "Close the damn door, or I'm not talkin' to you!" We quickly closed the door and she ushered us away from the seating area where a couple of unscrupulous characters were discussing something in an odd manner and out of the building to talk with us. Her mannerisms were similar to that of someone who is on something and by something I mean drugs. I come from a city well known for its drug problem (unfortunately) and I know it when I see it. She was very agitated when she spoke to us, using profanities, jumping around and swinging her body about in a manner only befitting a caveman.
From the second we stepped through the door I knew I DID NOT want to stay here. In an attempt to save face and get the heck out of there, we asked her if she had a pay phone available for use, as our phones were out of cellular range and we needed to contact the other half of our party. She did not have a pay phone. Instead she attempted to grab at my phone to, "Get it to work." She also became visibly alarmed when she noticed the rather large camera that my friend, who happens to be a photographer, was carrying with him. Walking closely up to the camera around his neck, inspecting it like a crazed chimpanzee and yelling, "That's not a phone!"
She began muttering incoherently, so we excused ourselves from her as quickly as possible, jumped into our car and bolted out of there. Never have I experienced someone so incoherent and obtrusive in a position like this. Location aside (this place is literally in the middle of nowhere), Needles Outpost simply does not feel safe. Never will I return. Traveling here is not for the faint of heart. Ignore my warning if you must, but do not bring...
Read moreEven though we read about problems with inappropriate and unprofessional behavior from the previous owners, we decided to give this place a try. Well, as the song goes: "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss." Here's what happened.
It had rained that day during our stay at the campground, and much to my surprise about 50 feet of the sandy road leading to a few campsites, including ours, was flooded in about a foot of water. We had become acquainted with the couple camping next to us and one of them approached us at the end of the day to ask if it was difficult getting through the water to our campsite. We told him it was a little slippery but not too bad. He then decided to take his vehicle through the water and made it to his campsite.
That evening, just before it started to get dark, I heard a loud dune buggy type vehicle and saw it drive very fast through the water and up to the campsite next to us The man driving the vehicle, one of the owners, then got off and walked up to the campers and said that his wife in the office told him that they were "disgruntled" and asked if that is true. The man responded that everything was okay now, but he was disappointed when he asked for some advice at the office as to whether or not he would be able to get his car through the flooded road leading to his campsite and was told "you could give it a try."
All of a sudden the owner walked up right in the man's face and started shouting that the couple has to leave immediately "if you know what's good for you." The owner was clearly upset and agitated and when the couple protested that they have not done anything wrong, the owner continued yelling that he is the owner and can kick anyone out of his campground for any reason. It seemed to me from this owner's body language, words and tone that he was threatening the use of force if the couple chose to remain. Well, to make a longer story short, the campers packed up and left within about 45 minutes or so. I felt really sorry for them for having been treated that way and now having to go find and set up a campsite in another campground in the dark .
I did not sleep well at all that night as I found the owner's behavior very frightening. We decided to leave early the...
Read moreI wish I could leave negative stars. Where do I even start. The directions were confusing. The bathrooms were abhorrent, the campsites were run down, but honestly I’m leaving this review because the owner of this establishment is insanely rude, passive aggressive, and controlling. I have never been treated so badly as a paying customer. We have been traveling for many years and have never once had a problem at a campsite. The woman at the front desk( I believe Amber) was immediately aggressive towards me about the 5 mph speed limit during check in, I was told at least 5 more times during our stay despite at times literally driving like 2 or 3 mph. When I defended my efforts to obey the speed limit she cussed at me and threatened to kick me out. It feels like this woman genuinely hates her own customers. It feels like the opposite of customer service in the way that she expects each guest to cater to her every need. Including a long list of rules which she explained upon arrival and has posted all over the place on passive aggressive signs. (See photos) Every moment of our stay felt like walking on eggshells to not upset her rules or her ego. We stayed only one night even though we originally booked for two. Luckily we were able to make other arrangements so we didn’t have to stay another night in this toxic place. The showers are not free with your stay and she seemed extremely controlling over how much water you were allowed to use during your actual shower. The bathrooms were disgusting and run down. There were holes in the walls and ceiling tiles missing all over the place. Seems how the men and women’s bathrooms share a wall you can stand in the men’s bathroom and see the ceiling in the women’s bathroom which is creepy and I believe a code violation.(see photos) I would not recommend this place to anyone. It has a beautiful view but is unfortunately ruined...
