If you want to be close to all the great hunting opportunities near Maybell, as well as to the Sand Wash Basin mustang herd or floating the Green River rapids or visiting Dinosaur National Monument or simply have fun in real cowboy country, there is no better place to center your activities than the Victory Hotel. Breakfasts consist of homemade waffles, choice of cereal and coffee. Bag lunches are available -- with the best sandwiches you've ever tasted -- for a price, and so are great homemade dinners. You must, of course, request lunches and dinners and be sure to give Oonita enough time to have them ready for you. There is, of course, an extra charge for lunches and dinners. The atmosphere is so comfortable and there is plenty of time -- as well as great places -- to mingle with the other guests. Elk hunters will be astounded at some of the beautiful mounted animals hanging on Woody's walls, one of which breaks the magic 400 Boone & Crockett points barrier. Our room was small but tidy. Bathrooms are shared but, amazingly, this never posed a problem as I know of three spacious bathrooms scattered about the hotel (there may be more; I didn't ask). We were never bothered by any noise at all other than the occasional 18-wheeler passing in the night on nearby Highway 40 -- and that was just extraneous sound, nothing that would keep one up or be bothersome. Parking is right in front -- and free, which is nice. A nice park is right across the street, as well as a gas and convenience store where one can buy gas, ice, beverages and sandwich fixings (at fairly high prices). We heartily recommend the Victory Hotel! And we love Woody and Oonita! Great people. Everyone who was staying with us at the time has become friends who we remain in contact with, including a couple of fantastic wild horse...
Read moreIf you like unusual and quirky, this is your place. If you like to know just what you are getting, keep driving. This is an original hunting lodge from the 1890's. Electric and plumbing have been added since!||||10 rooms, 3 shared bathrooms. We got to wander around and pick out which room we liked. Woody pulled his car out of the garage so we could park our bicycles inside. There are several outdoor seating areas and two inside. Woody checked on us a number of times during the evening and answered many questions.||||The towels were fluffy as were the pillows and comforters. We couldn't hear a thing from room to room. No thin walls here. Each room had it's own air conditioner.||||Woody's wife fixed us dinner. She said she was used to cooking for hunters and portions would be generous. On one hand we were happy to have the food because the only restaurant in town is closed on Monday. But if we'd known how skimpy the food was, we would have elected for canned chili instead. That's why I took a star off, the cost wasn't equal to the value...
Read moreI've stayed here twice on work related trips. Fortunately I've been here in off seasons. Meaning non-hunting season. It would be a challenge when the place is full. It's very old building with all the ordinary quirks of old buildings. Creaky floors, drafts, whacking your head when you go upstairs because the stair well is too short. Things like that. ||||The rooms are very small, basically four walls and a bed or two. Three shared bathrooms. But like others have mentioned, the place has a lot of character and charm. I enjoy it very much, just be aware you won't be at the Best Western! I really like Maybell and the surrounding area. And I enjoyed visiting with the owners. They really are a very...
