We love the Pine Valley Recreation Area and you will too IF your reservation agreement matches the campground rules on arrival. We had a party of 6 (Dean Gardener D09, maximum occupants 8) reserved through the rec.gov website. AFTER setting up our 4 tents the camp hosts said we had too many tents. No where on the rec.gov website specify how many tents are allowed on site. The MALE camp host wouldn't level with us. We asked how to make this right and he said you can't stay here with that many tents. It was too late in the evening to even try and look for another campground, let alone two spots, in a place that required reservations or even first come first serve sites. So we packed up our gear and left. House rules govern here and they will be RUDE if not followed. To make this right, the reservation system should state the latest revision of the campground rules. In this day and age of technology it should be easy to do that. If the campgrounds use a reservation system why can't the campground rules be stated on that system? This was a very disappointing experience. Thanks for letting us down rec.gov and Pine Valley Recreation Area.

Just absolutely breathtaking out here. Such a wonderful difference from the other nearby parks which are more like dry rocks. So much greenery and a gorgeous river that runs through. Perfect for a walk in some cooler weather on the hotter summer days. Put your feet in the freezing cold river for a refresher. It didn't look very big to me from the map view but it's a good size to drive around before picking a good spot. Parking is cash only put in an envelope outside the park. Watch out for snakes! If you are in the area and are unsure of going, this is your sign saying to go. I almost didn't and now that I know what it's like out there, I would have regretted it sooo bad if I didn't go. It's truly so beautiful and peaceful.

The area is cooler than the surrounding desert. Beautiful walking and hiking trails. Nice campground with restrooms, picnic tables and grill areas. The reservoir is scenic and stocked with fish. No boats allowed or swimming but great for fishing from shore. There are group camp sites. I would suggest reservations, especially during summer months. They do not accept State or Nat'l. Park passes. A fee of $5 is charged for day use plus a small fee for campsite use.

WARNING! NOT A TENT FRIENDLY CAMPGROUND!!! TOLD WE HAD “TOO MANY TENTS”. Booked Campsite Recreation.gov in January for Sept 23-25. Online states 8 people allow at each campsite, DOES NOT STATE LIMIT ON NUMBER OF TENTS. Drove 2.5 Hours from Las Vegas, arrived about 2PM. Camp Host did not visit us until 6:30PM, LITERALLY AS THE SUN WAS SETTING. Tried to scam more money out of us for additional parking. Posted rate was $6 per car per night, he said it was ACUALLY $9 per car per night. Then he said we had to take down two tents because there is a LIMIT of TWO TENTS per campsite. When we asked for proof of this “RULE”, he could not show us anywhere the “TWO TENT RULE” was posted, and there is nothing about tent limits on the PINE VALLEY campground board at the site. THIS CAMP HOST HONESTLY EXPECTED TWO SINGLE FEMALES TO GET INTO SMALL TENTS WITH MARRIED COUPLES DURING A PANDEMIC. He then OFFERED to moves us to a DOUBLE OCCUPANCY campsite down at EQUESTRIAN, but would not transfer our two night reservation. WANTED US TO PAY ADDITIONAL FOR THE DOULBE SITE. Really started to feel like a scam. AGAIN, IT WAS SUNSET. This man expected us to drop camp while we had a fire going and food cooking, to move and reset up camp in the dark. After trying to negotiate letting us stay, we were FORCED OUT AT DARK! We told him we drove 2.5 hours from LAS VEGAS, to which he replied “A lot of people do”. WHAT KIND OF CAMP HOST FORCES PEOPLE OUT ONTO THE ROAD AFTER DARK??? When we asked why he didn’t come by at 2 or 3PM when we arrived, he stated that he’s not going to follow people in and he does his rounds at 6:30PM every night. (Also mentioned this is not the first time he has kicked campers out for TOO MANY TENTS) WILL NOT RETURN TO PINE VALLEY UTAH AS LONG AS THEY DESCRIMATE AGAINST...

Not sure if I can say enough good about this place. Take $8!!! We showed up when the fee shack was closed and left a credit card number on the fee ticket, but then we're able to pay with a card once we left and the shack was open. The guy helping us was super helpful.

This place is sheer heaven. In St. George it was a 75° morning and it was 54° in Pine Valley! So amazing. At 6,900 feet in elevation, the weather is a nice reprieve in the summer. The trails for hiking and horseback are amazing and picturesque. The pine trees and smells are straight up medicine for the soul. We didn't encounter a single person on the trails between 8-10 a.m. We took the Canal Trail but only went about 4.5 miles. The entire Canal Trail, if walking would be 8+ miles. The paved trail inside the coming area might be 2+ miles but SUPER easy.

Can't say enough good.

Oh, and the...
