I visited sometime in a past July. We arrived late, so unfortunately, we couldn’t run the RV generator—no big deal. The sky was breathtakingly clear, the kind of night that makes you want to sit outside. The campground was clean, well-maintained, and quiet.
We set up a few chairs and got ready to enjoy the peaceful outdoors. That's when the welcoming committee arrived... and by "welcoming committee," I mean a lot of cockroaches.
At first, I thought, “Just one or two, no problem!” But no—these guys brought their cousins, their cousins' cousins, cousin's friends and possibly a few ancient ancestors resurrected from the soil. My wife and daughter screamed and evacuated to the RV.
I tried to be brave. I stood my ground. I stomped. I performed some funny moviments. But alas, I too had to retreat. When the bugs outnumber you 100 to 1, you know it's time to wave the white flag. God damn it, there were so many!

Read moreGorgeous campground and affordable. I was in awe just waking up in such a beautiful place. No hookups. Our campsite, #8, was huge and had shade and it was literally right below a rock ledge that was covered in petrified dinosaur footprints! The kids had a BLAST climbing all over the rocks right there by our site. The hikes are fantastic; red reef hike is a must- bring your swimming suit to slide down slippery rock slides into pools or just take off your shoes and wade around to cool off. There's plenty of mountain bike trails and hiking trails. The downside- very competitive to get a camp spot and not much parking for the amount of traffic. Everyone was having a heck of a time finding parking for day use and many had to park quite far away by the highway and hike in. As a camper there, there was almost a constant parade of cars going through. The trails were quite crowded as well, for my taste. This was spring time though which is probably...
Read moreThis is a gorgeous campground with nice sites. Campground is thankfully much quieter since they closed campsite loop to day users (Day users can still access trails and tables from a parking area) Sites 1 and 2 back to beautiful cliffs, which I thought would give some privacy on those sites, but that ideal was short lived. Rock climbers soon threw their ropes down and I could hear them much of the day. The brochure states rock climbing is not allowed, but that didn’t matter to the climbers and I could not get ahold of a ranger to enforce. This happened twice. Both times the climbers excuse was “I’ve done it before, everyone does it.” (Which unfortunately seems to be the case) There is a stake up there they rappel off of. Maybe rangers could remove it to reduce it’s apparent popularity. Maybe this has changed by now, since they did make the great change of limiting the loop road to...
