We stayed at Royal Gorge RV resort (site #9) in October. This place was wonderful and we will definitely choose it the next time we are in Canon City. Our site was right near the jumping pad and playground, so all three of our kids could run over and play right from our site. The jumping pad was a hit, and the playground was huge and had so many different features-- enjoyable for our toddler all the way up to our 8 year old. We played a little sand volleyball and our kids had fun with the human sized chess set. This was definitely a family friendly place and our kids made tons of friends over our weekend here. Although we did not use it and stayed at our own site, the bonfire was set up in the evenings for guests right outside the main office. The sites aren't particularly private, it is more parking lot style, however that was to be expected for a private RV resort so we understood going into that. It is really a KOA on steroids, and definitely my preference over most of the KOAs we've been to. It is right off of Hwy 50 so there is some road noise, but if you've not been to Canon City most of the campgrounds are off of Hwy 50. Still some nice views and excellent star gazing in the evenings. Our site wasn't completely level, but it wasn't bad and quick to level. The fire pit was stone surround which was a a nice touch and provided much more warmth than the traditional metal pits. The pool and hot tub were closed in October, but it was very nice and new looking. The pool isn't huge, but really well done with lots of adirondack chairs, outdoor lighting, etc. It's about an 8 min drive to downtown Canon City and near all of the attractions. I have to say, this place had the nicest bathrooms of any campground we have ever stayed at. So clean and updated, Joanna Gaines style with white subway tile and a unique vanity (husband confirmed the men's bathroom is just as nice!). Shower pressure was comparable to my RV, and you do have to press the button to keep it going about every 30secs-1min, but it was hot and a lot more space than showering in my RV. About a week before our reservation I emailed them asking if we could bring our 2nd car (one of my kids had a game after school so we had to drive separately) and they responded in less than 24 hours and told me it wouldn't be a problem and they would include an extra parking pass in our welcome info. Wifi worked very well there. Definitely our place when we...
Read moreI had the best time tent camping with my kids. The view was amazing. We were left alone and given lots of privacy. It was super quiet. The night we got in, we were running late, but the worker came after hours to deliver the fire wood and golf cart. My son had a blast driving it around. Both kids enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and bouncy pillow. They even let us into the pool area before it officially opened. They never said anything to us. We had all the freedom in the world out there. The lot was affordable. The bathrooms were spectacular. The nicest bathrooms I’ve ever seen at a campground. We had lots of room and open space to just take in the scenery and enjoy the great outdoors. My kids wanted to live at the campsite, it was hard to get them to pack up and come home. We’ll definitely come back. We actually had a family season pass to the Royal Gorge, but we didn’t even make it this trip because my kids were so content and happy at the campsite. It was the peaceful getaway we needed, it was so nice to slow down and go without screens or a schedule. There is so much more to explore around Canon City, we’ll have to come again to see it all. We highly recommend and thank you Royal Gorge RV Resort and Cabins for being the highlight of our summer. Next time we need to pack a campfire grill so we can cook over the fire. I had expected there to be one and so we brought kabobs and pans to boil water for noodles but had to toss the meat. That was my only...

What a gem this place is. I believe it is under new ownership, so I think they are still in the process of getting all the sites up and running. What I saw while were were there were TONS of tent sites, full hook up sites, shaded sites. So much to choose from.
The entire park is surrounded by mountains. Literally any direction you face, you're going to be looking at mountains. The dog park was huge and had a couple of obstacles for more active dogs than mine to play on. In the tent camping area, they had a nice dishwashing station with running water and a sink set up. They have a nice swimming pool (too cold for us though) and hot tub. In the front, there is a nice sitting area with Adirondack chairs and propane fire pits (I believe you need to supply your own propane tank). Giant outside games are available such as chess and connect four. There is a playground for the kiddos and a giant jump pad. I cannot express how amazing the shower house/restrooms were. The nicest I've ever seen. There is a cute little gift shop where you check in that has a few souvenirs, ice cream, snacks, drinks, etc.
This RV Resort is located conveniently to all that Royal Gorge and Cañon City have to offer, but still nicely quiet and isolated. We will definitely be back and I can't recommend this place...
