Very busy place, many ATV and other vehicles, too often excessively fast, using the main road in. But, the area delivers a breath taking view of Blanca Peak and cool temps that keep bringing me back. Several sites are nested in the soft sand just off the main access road that are large enough for big RVs. Smaller, tent sized pads are further up what becomes a fairly rough accent up Blanca's base. The town of Alamosa, and Walmart are a 20 minute westward drive from camp, Great Sand Dunes is 20 minutes north. Verizon is a solid 3-4 bars of LTE with light network traffic and decent up/down speeds. I'd have given 5 stars if not for the (way too often rude and inconsiderate)...
Read morePlenty of room for boondocking right off the dirt road. I made it in on the dirt road in my minivan with no problem. No trees until you go quite a ways up the road so NO SHADE unless you bring your own awning of some kind or a sweet cloud passes in front of the sun. No amenities here. True boondocking. Pack out all your trash because there are no trash cans. No electricity or water hookups. No drinking or wash water on site. No toilets of any kind. No picnic tables. However, it's free to camp here and the view of the...
Read moreYou can't beat free! Great place to stay while visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park. We parked about 1/2 mile in on the left and spent 3 nights here. BIG RIGS TSKE NOTE: The turn into the area is very tight, swing out into the opposite side of traffic before attempting the right turn into the area, or you could end up in the ditch! We're had a great view of the mountains right out our door. This is a favorite place for OHV, but they mostly just parked here and headed up the mountain. On our last night, friday, it got pretty crowded, but everyone respected each other's space and privacy. NO SHADE or other services, bring what you need. We had 3 bars of...
