I loved staying here the past few years, but this past week’s experience has made it so I’ll never come here again. The people that run this place really don’t seem to care about creating a good experience at all. If any issues arise, don’t expect them to take care of it right away or try to make things right, despite the high prices you pay to stay there.
To start off, my friends were staying in a mirror pod. It’s 100 degrees out and when they arrive there is zero water in the fan (which they call “AC”). Just know it is NOT AC, and barely cools the place down. They text them asking to come fill it and the workers say they can’t because they’re currently “off grid”. So they say the only options was to either wait until the next day for them to come fill it or carry a cooler to the restrooms to fill it with water. Keep in my kind, this was pod #8 and not close to the restrooms at all. Super unprofessional in my opinion. You should NEVER be “off grid” when running a business in case things go wrong. We’re paying you to be here and take care of us, so that’s just wrong. They were dying of heat the whole weekend in there since those fans don’t do anything.
Next, when we arrived in our reservation in the tiny home, our AC wouldn’t work. Luckily my boyfriend sells the hoses they use for it and was able to fix it because they never turned the water valve on for it. But if it was anyone else they probably would have been SOL with no AC. The tiny home wasn’t clean at all. There was still sand and sticky stuff all over the floor and sand all over the couch. There was dirty Clorox wipes on the counter like they had just wiped it and then left them there. They don’t seem to vacuum or clean anything well in between people. All of the dishes aren’t washed and are disgusting (luckily we brought our own plastic ware and paper plates). There were no towels to use for showering. Pretty much missing all of the basic things you expect to be there. Which is strange because last year when we stayed there, they had these necessities there. So it seems like it’s just going downhill. Next is just downright disgusting. There were stains, including what looked like blood stains, on the bedding and on the pillows in the closet. That’s just unacceptable. Also, all of the pillows in the closet were super dirty and brown. We ended up pulling off all the bedding and sleeping on our own because we were so grossed out. They even tried to make the bed with the stains side down so we might not notice.
Then on our 3rd night, we ended up losing power around 1 AM. This means no power, no water, no AC, no anything. And the generator was beeping literally all night long. We didn’t sleep one bit after that. I texted Parker in the middle of the night to let him know and received a response the next morning that it was most likely because the previous day was cloudy, so the solar generator didn’t get enough power charged up. And all he said was basically to deal with it and use the public restrooms. I paid extra so I wouldn’t have to use the public restrooms. How can you rely on power if it’s cloudy and won’t charge?? There should be some kind of backup for things like this. I paid almost $200 a night to not sleep at all before our drive home the next morning. Also super unprofessional to not answer my texts after I told him about all of the stained bedding and sent pictures. It sucks that they aren’t more professional because this place could be amazing with better staff. We’ve been coming here every year the past 3 years and now...
Read moreIt is our impression that this host doesn't care about his guests. The day of our arrival, we informed our host at 10:25am that we were arriving by motorcycle around 8pm that evening. When we arrived, our tent did not have adequate heat, it had a tiny propane heater, that ended up running out of propane in the middle of the night, but it was so small we never felt heat anyway! It was October 4th, and the temperature that night was in the low 40's, so we froze all night. Before we went to bed, we called him and asked him why we had no towels to shower, since we had informed him at 10:25am that day that we were arriving late around 8pm. He had all day to arrange for our arrival, but never arranged for us to have towels. I asked him if he could bring us some towels, and he stated that he lives far away and basically told us we were out of luck, that towels were passed out in the morning. We asked if towels could be brought the next morning, but he stated that our departure time of 6am was too early so again we weren't receiving any towels. Why was there no one to attend to this property? So we could not clean up or shower. The location is remote, no lights, on a gravel road, and then you drive on sand. He knew we were arriving by motorcycles in the dark after 8pm, and gave us no preliminary guidance. Knowing all of this ahead of time, when we spoke at 10:25am that morning, we may have arrived earlier. Out of fairness, I asked for compensation, since we could not use the showers with no towels and he has never responded. The whole experience was truly a nightmare. We have "glamped" in other locations and have never experienced this kind...
Read moreThe owner/proprietor is laidback and super responsive to text and calls, very accommodating and helpful. The casita that we stayed in had an amazing view with floor to ceiling glass windows. The air conditioning worked great and we had a good night’s sleep. After grilling, we were pleasantly surprised by the vast number of stars and visible Milky Way. The kids loved it too. The bathrooms were nice and clean with flushable toilets and private showers only a few steps from the casitas. The turquoise water on the rock free beach made us feel like we were in the Tropics. We took a few kayaks out with the kids and it really topped off our stay. We will definitely be back to try out some of the other quirky and fun accommodations like the airstream and tiny house. Thank you for the great memories and hospitality. Yuba lake feels like such a gem and we look forward to...
