This January, we visited Steamboat for the 5th time. We've stayed at a lot of different places. This year, we chose the Scandinavian Lodge because it was pet-friendly and we decided to drive out with our 2 dogs. I would call the place "good enough". It was an okay place to stay but I've definitely stayed at better for the same price.||Pros:|Dog Friendly - we had dogs and other people had dogs. We never had any disturbances. They provide nice sized pick-up bags and a waste bucket for them.|Location - It's at a beautiful place on the mountain close to the Thunderhead Lift|View from the Hot Tub - when sitting in the hot tub, you have a nice view of the mountain during night skiing and you can see the city.||Cons:|Check-in - We waited at check-in for several minutes while the only Pioneer Ridge agent was on the phone. One of the Mountain Resorts agents came over to help us instead. We asked if there was a way we could work with the maid and towel service to try to coordinate taking our dogs for a walk while they came in to make it easier on them. The MR Agent went to check with the PR agent and the PR agent smirked like that was the dumbest thing she ever heard and said, "No".|Towel and Maid Service - We were given a schedule for towel and maid service but apparently they don't actually come if you have pets in the room. Which is fine; I understand that. We left a note in the door warning them in advance that there were dogs in the room but they were crated. We know they never even opened the door because the note would have fallen. But It would have been nice if we were told that upfront and given a number to call when we needed new towels instead of being left to figure it out.|Amenities - Most of the places I've stayed have provided a few things like local Steamboat coffee and snacks and some basic things you usually need like that. This place didn't provide anything so you have to go to the store straight away.|Shuttle - They only have 1 shuttle. It goes to various properties. In the mornings, it stops at this place every 30 minutes so if you miss it, you're stuck until the next run. It quits running to the Gondola at 5PM and you have to call after that point. We tried to call at 4:50 one day and were told that no one could get us until 5 and to call back and request it then rather than the agent taking care of it themselves at 5PM. Sometimes in the evening, the wait for the shuttle was going to be so long that we just started driving ourselves.|Pool area - The hot tub is not well lit and there's no light inside it or stairs to walk into it. The area around it gets icy and you can easily slip getting in and out of the hot tub and the building. The towels in the area are also tiny and thin. Another note not about the resort, our last night there were 3 children running between the pool and the hot tub and had splashed 5 inches of water out of the hot tub with their dad inside on his lap top not paying any attention. You were only covered halfway up your chest by then when sitting.||Overall, I would stay again if I were bringing pets but when I'm not I'll definitely stay...
Read moreInconsistent information and a spineless property manager! Homeowners and guests should not be reprimanded for the this building's incompetence.
This was a business trip for my husband and he was placed in this condo because Steamboat is empty this time of year. Prior to leaving our home in Summit County, I checked google, TripAdvisor and the main website to make sure we could bring our dog. Per TripAdvisor (updated this month) and reviews, this was one of the only pet friendly places in Steamboat. I then checked the website and there was no mention of pets, only a statement at the bottom of the page that says it is non smoking building, but guests are allowed to smoke in their cars (lol).
My husband went ahead because he had to work and I followed several hours later. When he arrived, he didn't even notice the small signs plastered on the side of the door with all the rules. When I arrived, I noticed signs that say to pick up dog poop and I counted 2 mutt mitt dispensers, so I was incredibly surprised to see the small signs by the door that say pets are not allowed in the building! SO what exactly are those mutt mitt dispensers for? The bears?!
We couldn't leave our dog in the car because it was 85 degrees during the day so we made sure to stay out of the condo for most of the day during our stay. The manager saw our dog in the parking lot and said nothing. But now that we are home, we found out that the homeowners were fined for our dog.
I am writing this review to serve as a warning to all pet owners especially if you book through a 3rd party site because the lodge has no information about you.. so if you happen to bring in a service animal, which is allowed, the spineless manager won't say a word to you and will hit the homeowners with a fine without gathering more information. Sounds like shady business to me.
The second shady thing is parking. I understand that parking can be incredibly limited in a small lot, but I also feel that common sense should be practiced as well. The lodge is located at the top of this windy road and it's not next to anything of interest. The condo only had one parking pass, and obviously the manager saw us outside, in our cars, with our dog.. he knew we were in the same unit yet the next morning, I had a tow sticker on my car. Once again, this place was empty ! I definitely wasn't taking anyone's parking spot. I had to ghetto rig the parking pass, write a long note about how both cars were together in the same unit, then my husband and I took turns placing the pass in our cars hoping one of us wouldn't get towed.
My advice to the Scandinavian Lodge: make your information consistent because people travel from far destinations and we can't just dump our pets off in the street when we arrive, learn some real management and hospitality skills because this building does not have a lot going for it. It smells musty, looks like an old motel and your manager is creepy. I definitely would not pay to stay here and I definitely would not buy...
Read moreEnjoyed our weekend with the family (6ppl) of us went to visit nephew who goes to college there. We had reserved a 2 bedroom condo which is one of the only resorts that will allow pets. Also stayed here because the agent said it was as ground floor unit. My mom is handicap and cant do stairs. Well, when we arrived the property does not have ground floor units. You have to go down 6 stairs and they either up a flight to the 3rd floor or down to the 2nd floor. This was a problem for her and I was upset that the booking agent did not inform me of this. But what were we to do? ||||The unit itself (106) was a 2bedroom sleeps 6. And it had up-to-date décor, very comfortable beds, lots of room and the kitchen & bathrooms were clean. Had blow dryers, irons and extra bedding for the pull out sofa. Everything was great! The only thing is it just had salt & pepper (no other spices) but a lot of cooking utensils. This unit fit our family well and provided pets.||||The property was well kept. the pool was maintained. The location is far up the mountain, but it was a beautiful view of the mountain. Not sure what the roads maybe like in the winter? ||||The costumer service at the front Pioneer Ridge resort company was fantastic. The gentleman that checked us in was very knowledgeable and a great speaker. ||||All in all it turned out ok, but would have liked to have been informed of the layout and location...
