Overall it was good. I was shocked at how clean and well-kept it was, especially considering there's no on-site host. Way better than many campgrounds with a host poking a nose in multiple times a day. We were just about as far from the toilets as you could get, which I hated, but that's just the way campgrounds are sometimes. The WORST thing by far is the way they handle reservations though. That alone would make me think twice about staying again. There are some that are reservation only, and others that are fcfs, but they are not well-marked. It's hard to find the fcfs, which caused us to end up in a spot you're supposed to reserve ahead of time. If you pay before going, you run a very real risk of having someone in your spot when you get there. If you don't pay, other than the obvious risk of no spots available, you might also end up being the one stealing a spot, or some mix of the two. When we got there the other member of our small group had already picked and paid for a spot...which I then found out was apparently reserved the last night we were there. The other person didn't have any service out there, but I had minimal service. So I was very nervous and felt terrible, but couldn't force a move. Thank goodness, the person who reserved it either didn't show up or were very kind and simply chose another open spot. It isn't a terribly crowded campground, so it wouldn't have been difficult, but I also wouldn't have blamed them for...
ย ย ย Read moreIt's $15/night as of Feb 2017; great for family camping during spring or fall, I personally think it's too hot for comfort in summer. It's a very nice, clean campground, and my family thoroughly enjoyed it while we were there alone. It's an hour or so from the Dugway Geode Beds, if you enjoy mineral hunting, this should be an attraction. Although, the Geode Beds are on BLM land, and dispersed camping is available out there for free anyway, so maybe you don't need this campground. Maybe if you want the water and toilets come to the campground instead. There are a few trees here at Simpson Springs, whereas that's not true out there at the Geode Beds. Also, the Pony Express house is pretty cool.
Back to the campground, it was thoroughly unenjoyable when RVers came on our last night , with their very loud generators on all evening, through the night, and through our last morning there. But that's not anything against the campground, it's only other inconsiderate campers you have to watch out for. Beautiful sunsets to be seen here, lots of wildlife, especially if there aren't too many...
ย ย ย Read moreI came out here early October for a weekend. Getting to the campsite takes you along a gravel road with a few dips and gouges in it. I did this drive in sedan. Not the ideal vehicle but it's doable as long as you keep an eye on the road for those changes in it. Once at the campsite, I was amazed at how beautiful the views were. Surrounded by trees with plenty of shade on in my campsite (#1). There were a ton of flies which made it impossible to leave anything unattended. My campsite didn't have a separate cooking area just the fire ring. It did get windy from time to time but not unbearable. Night is very beautiful with lots of stars blanketing the sky. Vault toilets and water spigots throughout the camp. I recommend checking it out and taking it all in. (Btw, I had no cell services with...
