I am writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding a recent experience at Snowbasin ski resort/school. My kid enrolled your ski group lessons for 4 full days, and while I initially expected a professional and supportive environment, which it does for the first 3 days, especially the 3rd day but the reality on the 4th day fell short of these expectations.
It became evident that there was a lack of sufficient instructors to address the needs of children at different ski skill levels. Instead of acknowledging and addressing this issue, the responsibility was unfairly shifted onto parents, as though we were at fault for expecting a level of service that aligns with the promises made by program.
As a parent, I entrusted your school with the responsibility of providing quality instruction and ensuring my child’s safety and progress. Unfortunately, the lack of adequate staffing and organization not only hindered my child’s learning experience but also raised concerns about the program’s management and commitment to its students.
Specifically, I was disheartened by: Insufficient instructor availability: Children at varying skill levels require tailored instruction to progress safely and effectively. Blaming parents: The director Krista said because I only spend couple thousand dollars that is she couldn’t really do anything about my situation, if I were spending about 10k then she might be able to accommodate my need. This approach undermines trust and detracts from the real issue—an apparent lack of preparation and resources on your end.
I respectfully request that you review this situation and take the necessary steps to improve the program. This includes hiring and training more qualified instructors, ensuring proper group assignments based on skill levels, and fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism within your organization.
Please let me know how you intend to address these concerns. I value the potential of your program and hope to see improvements that will provide a positive experience for all participants.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Btw, I would give 0 to 1 star rating but because the 3rd day instructor Mark that earns your resort 1 more star rating from...
Read moreWe visited Snowbasin for a ski trip with our child, and while we try to make the most of these annual trips from Texas to other states, this experience was disappointing and frustrating. Snowbasin uses a daily report card system to classify children’s skill levels, but their classifications are overly simplistic (First Time, Green, Blue, and Black) compared to other resorts we’ve visited, which use more detailed levels (e.g., Level 1 through 10). Initially, we accepted this, but on the fourth day, things became problematic. The front desk told us our son is the Black level, but due to a shortage of instructors, they placed him in a group where most of the kids were green level. This mismatch in skill levels was unsafe—during one stop, a green level child in the group couldn’t brake properly and crashed into our son. This was dangerous and unacceptable. Additionally, instead of being challenged on appropriate slopes, our son had to stay on easier runs to accommodate the rest of the group, which hindered his progress and learning. When we raised these concerns with management, they acknowledged the issue but insisted we were enrolled in a group lesson, which we understood. However, group lessons are advertised as being based on skill levels. Grouping kids with drastically different abilities is not only ineffective but also creates serious safety risks. Their Director, Krista, made matters worse by saying something completely unprofessional and offensive. She implied that since we only spent "a few thousand dollars," but if we had spent $10,000, things would be different. This discriminatory and unprofessional remark left us shocked. We understood her underlying message: unless you pay for private lessons, don’t bother complaining, even if the service you receive doesn’t match what was advertised. We recognize that staffing can be challenging during the holidays, but selling more lessons than you can staff safely is irresponsible. Snowbasin needs to address these issues for the safety and satisfaction of their customers. Until then, I would not recommend this resort for families who are serious about ski...
Read moreUpdated 3/12/2022 - We have been Snowbasin season pass holders for the past 5+ years and this is the first year we are not buying season passes for next year.
Our experience this year at Snowbasin was terrible as far as crowds go and they continue to pack more people on the slopes. It's dangerous! The future expansions planned for Snowbasin don't solve the dangerous choke points on the mountain - it will just bring more people.
We alternated between Powder Mountain and Snowbasin this year and EVERY time, we had a better mountain experience at Powder.
Snowbasin has great food & lodges and we had a lot of great years, but the crowds are ridiculous and unsafe so we're moving on.
Previous review - Mar. 2021 Snowbasin has done an awesome job adapting for a COVID ski season. As regulars at Snowbasin, we hope the resort modifications made this year will stay! The yurt ticket windows are an improvement along with the slopeside dining options & spaced out seating are appreciated. The mid-mountain warming yurts are a great idea although we've never seen them being used.
Initially staff did an excellent job enforcing the mask policy and that seems to be fading as the season is coming to a close.
Liftees are friendly and attentive. Ski Patrol at Snowbasin are awesome, responsive, and friendly.
Parking is better than many ski resorts; however, it has been better in years past when Snowbasin had staff directing guests where to park to get most out of the parking lots.
The resort facilities are always clean, staff is friendly, and there are so many dining options. (However, please bring the waffles back at JP's Lodge!)
There are a lot of runs and lift options to allow guests to spread out on the mountain but there are a few bottleneck areas that get crowded and crazy, especially on the weekends.
In summary, the overall options & experience at Snowbasin are fantastic. Four-star rating due to...
