I struggled to write this post. The first time we stayed here in a cabin and had the best time. This recent trip we tent camped and I want to be cognizant of tent camping frustrations in itself. I will truly stick to the park ups and downs. The good: Having showers and bathrooms was a must and they do a good job of keeping it clean, Especially with a ton of kids running around. The RV park was dog friendly which was nice to not have to board the dogs. They had a pool, clubhouse with games, pickleball, a small playground, access to the river, they also had organized events if we wanted to join and they have a food truck on the weekends. I also liked that security roamed around to keep an eye on things. I liked that every site had a picnic table and the certain sites had green grass adding to the desert landscape.
Things to consider: at checkin, please stay in the right lane!! Our first greeting with the check in process was a bust. There were two lanes which we've seen before where one is check in and the other is for previously checked in guests returning. I own that there is a giant sign I originally missed that said for new check-ins to be in the right lane. But there were two rangers working and it just seemed as if they were trying to expedite the process so after waiting 5 mins in line, I thought I'd go in the left lane. Again an error on my part, but one thing I'm used to is the checkin being right next to the office and the pass thru lane being on the right. It was the response from the ranger that blew my mind. He stood half out of the office building, starring, with his hands on his hips. I asked my husband, is he waiting on me!? So I slowly pulled up and he yelled at me, "'what are you doing?" I replied, "honestly I don't know. I'm trying to check in but confused with this process". He lectured me about being in the wrong lane, that he'd have to pull up the gate to let me turn around and get back in line. I was fine with getting in line, but I was completely baffled by how he acted. The rudest guy ever. When we were back in line he attempted to be nice by giving the dog treats but there was no coming back from just how completely rude he was. I can't be the first person to mix it up.
The other issue we experienced is that there are a lot of people living here. It was very unwelcoming to be in a row of tents next to a row of what appeared to be permanent campers ( they have sheds and custom decks attached to their RV). The limited green grass was around their units and honestly, right where dogs gravitate. I respect people not wanting dogs peeing all over the grass but it's almost unavoidable. My dogs are not motivated to pee on a pile of rocks. I felt that many of the perm residents were not welcoming as we were encroaching on their space. I can't imagine wanting to live next to revolving renters either, so it makes more sense if they have all the RVers living there long term to have their own space. I guess my two cons are just don't expect great interactions.
We had a good time, but did end up heading home a day early as it just wasn't what we had envisioned. I may consider coming back for the cabins but won't bring an RV...
ย ย ย Read moreWe come to this part frequently and have for years. The park is looking very run-down. The park is getting worse as time goes by. For example, there are more dirt and unkept lots than green, manicured lots. The dead grass and dirt are very messy. Every visit requires a trash patrol of the lot before camping. The watering is left up to campers and this is not a good process, rarely are people prepared with extra hoses, etc. A better process would be for the park to simply ask guests if it's ok to water, maintain the lots while campers are onsite during their stay and have the staff manage this. If people aren't ok with watering and maintenance being done, then a rotation could take place, so the site is fixed once that camper has vacated. There are numerous sites capped out of order. If these spots will permanently be out of order, maybe replace the green bags with a fake rock or shrub to cover the power/water post? Some of the residence sites are getting out of control, the "yard art" is becoming very cluttered and excessive. This takes away from the "resort" feel and makes the overall park much less appealing, especially combined with the majority of the sites looking like dirt lots. We have just this one park in our zone for Arizona. We would go to other parks if there were an option. This Thousand trails park does not look like the sales brochures. This is my first survey response because this 'survey' site usually takes me to some other weird online junk site once I complete the survey and I usually give up and don't submit my response. But this is important and COMMON feedback from our friends and relatives who also frequent this park. You should know how we feel. I will take pictures and submit this again with...
ย ย ย Read moreThis was my first Thousand Trails park so I wanted to visit more before writing a review. We have now been to three parks so I feel like I have formed a better opinion.
This park is beautiful. There are mountains, easy walking trails, hiking, mini golf, giant chess and activities hosted by the park and members.
You get to choose your own space and some parts of the park are prettier than others. There are a lot of long term residents and people generally are respectful and keep to themselves.
The park is kept immaculately clean. The bathrooms were dated but had good size clean showers. There are two dog parks and the โlargeโ one is easily the size of a baseball field. This park is amazing for dogs with the dog parks and walking trails.
So hereโs the BUT. THERE IS HORRIBLE INTERNET SERVICE HERE. Absolutely horrendous. Itโs a dead zone for cell service and internet. We have Verizon, T Mobile, and ATT Wi-Fi. None of which worked. We drove around the entire park trying to find the best spot and there really isnโt one. We then purchased the monthly internet plan. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. It does not work, at all. We ended up having to work in the clubhouse since we both work full time and remote where there is free internet, even after trying to buy their internet.
The clubhouse/lounge is spacious and decently comfortable but when they have community events, theyโll kick you out or push you to a corner. There were tons of residents working in there all having the same issues with Wi-Fi as we did.
Also super grateful that this is one of the (I believe) only 2 not 55+ parks in Arizona. The crowd is older and there werenโt a ton of families or kids playing when we were there...
