Idk where to begin - I would not recommend staying here. The website is deceiving, the Shaws do not own the place anymore. It is clear it used to have glory days but those are long gone. Some but not all details of our poor experience… -The pool was not heated as advertised. They keep the cover on to keep the heat in and you have to ask for it to be removed before you go in. I assure you there was no heat to keep in. We go to hotels/motels so our child has something to enjoy and this was a huge bummer we drove 3 hours to this place. The cement around the pool was unfinished, uneven and dangerous - my daughter got a shard in her foot and I had to run out for hydrogen peroxide (20 mins away). The rooms were dark, musty, old and very mismatched just random schemes of art, drapes, bedding and furniture thrown in. The lamps were older than me and provided low yellow lighting. We cleaned everything that touched that motel room as soon as we got home. -The heater grates were dusty and musty smelling. Despite the heat being cranked all the way the room never went above 70 degrees which doesn’t seem low but when it’s -17 out with wind chill it just doesn’t cut it. -Paid an extra $60 for a second child fee (we have a baby and 3yr old) but considering this there wasn’t enough towels provided to cover all of us. -The entire parking lot was covered in 2+ inches of thick ice. It was never salted and so dangerous ! You need to walk across the l to get to the Lodge where the pool and food area are. It was truly dangerous. -Lastly, the “continental breakfast” consisted of a few hard bagels, a bowl of apples, 2 kinds of cereal and a small refrigerator with a gallon of whole milk, and half and half. There was also a juice machine that tasted disgusting and had floaties in it. To accompany the bagels there was peanut butter, butter packets and cream cheese flavored frosting… yup you read that right. Someone was a little confused on what cream cheese for bagels was. Anyways, I don’t typically leave poor reviews but tho my after thing kept getting worse and I don’t want anyone to be deceived by the website and what the place USED TO BE. I would not recommend...
Read moreWhen my friend and I arrived, we thought the motel was nice -- it had a welcoming outward appearance, with a beautiful view of Cannon Mountain and the river running parallel to the building.
We went to check in and the first thing we were told was that the WiFi cable was broken and there was little to no internet access. There was just enough WiFi to video call people for a minute or two, but not enough to access our location services. Thankfully, we only needed them to get back home, but it was still annoying not being able to contact our families for more than a few minutes a day.
The coffee maker hadn't been cleaned before we arrived. The phone didn't dial. The trash wasn't taken from our room, despite us leaving the maid sign on the doorknob for two days, until it had built up to the point where it could no longer be ignored. The toilet clogged and we made it clear we needed assistance, but it was left that way even after the room was "cleaned." It had gotten to the point where we had to ask the front desk for a plunger because we had had to run back and forth to the pool house to use the restroom, but the woman there didn't know where one was. By the time we finally got one, nearly twelve hours had passed and I didn't even know if I would be able to plunge it anymore because it had sat for so long, unattended.
We could have over looked a lot of the negative aspects we encountered because the room itself was nice and we didn't spend much time there due to being so busy during the day. But we had left certain items in our room only to find them gone upon our return, and that just solidified the unpleasantness of the...
Read moreI don’t know the condition of the smaller units because we were stuck in The Lodge. Avoid it like the plague! What a dump! The first thing that greeted us at the front door was the filthy, stained carpet across the ground floor; the second was the strong smell of mold and mildew, which never went away. There was a general impression of grime and neglect. This was a rather nice building at one time, with woodwork and stone, big rooms, a sunken fireplace, and large windows. Now, it’s a health hazard. Empty snack machines; non-functioning ice machine. It needs to be razed, or it needs a major infusion of cash to bring it up to standard. |The rest of our night there continued apace. Our room was large, more or less clean, but generally grimy and disheveled. The bathroom was tiny, with the smallest toilet seat I’ve ever experienced. The beds weren’t quite full-sized and I kept rolling off the bed. The pervasive moldy smell wasn’t conducive to sleep either. |We skipped the continental breakfast to go to Polly’s Pancakes (which was fantastic). But it looked underwhelming (two apples, an orange, and a banana; six glazed donuts; a few pieces of bread). I did have a cup of coffee which I literally spit out. The pool was murky and not heated; ice cold. |Not cheap either: almost $200 for three adults and a child. On the positive side, the young man at the front desk was very friendly and responsive. |Avoid this place until it is totally renovated. You can do much better for the money. |Not...
