The place: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of my all time favorite spots! The staff, residents, and visitors are all awesome! I enjoy the pools, the bar is good, and they have good American comfort food. They have avocado you can add to things. There is plenty of hiking, racket ball sports, and basketball. I will try to make it for the 5k this year. Definitely a regular spot of mine now, although this is my second visit.
The accessibility: ⭐⭐⭐ This time I came with a friend who uses a wheelchair and we were able to access some things and not others. -The front office has stairs and no ramp, but the beautiful person who checked us in came down to the car for the run down and paperwork. ❤️ You can call them and they answer quickly and are very helpful. They have some cool things to buy in the office so make sure to ask about that if you can't get up the stairs or have a friend who can. -The road is a bit steep, as it is in the mountains. -The lower pool area is accessible if you go down and around the building just before the front office. The bathrooms and open bay showed are accessible by ramp. -The shaded sun decks have a step up. -The bar has a steep ramp. -The main pool had no lift chair -The conversation pool has no step and there is a chair lift, but the lift wasn't working yesterday. They tried to fix it for us, perhaps they will have it fixed soon. -The hot tub has a chair lift but there are several steps to get up to that area. -The restaurant is accessable with no steps.
Accessability if room 20: ⭐⭐⭐ Rooms 20 and 21 are listed as accessable and have reserved parking right next to the room. You can get to the pool area by going down the steep road from the room. I wouldn't call the room itself accessable for wheelchair use, but we made do. -There is a small rise at the door itself -There is a sharp turn right at the entrance, so a standard push wheelchair couldn't get in until we removed the feet. -The bathroom doesn't have an accessable shower or handles for the toilet. I wouldn't call it accessable, but there is an outside shower that is open bay.
Overall it is a lovely place with lovely people! It just has a few rusty spots where they could improve on wheelchair...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Sunny Rest for the first time over the weekend, staying at one of the newer RV sites (D34). This was among 5 sites that were in the process of being added, where the back of the sites was all loose dirt where electric, water and sewage had just been added. Made for limited outdoor space and kind of a mess with all the recent rain.
Having said that, we were fortunate to be able to get a site as this place is very popular, with a lot of seasonal people with established sites and limited RV and tent sites offered throughout. Those established locations were grassy and generally pretty nice.
The people at the resort were all very friendly and welcoming, saying hi and chatting with you. Likewise with the staff, overall very welcoming.
The atmosphere is pretty casual, while clothing optional, you really only are expected to be undressed at the pool or hot tub and it feels completely natural. You will also see people walking around naked, topless or partially clothed - no pressure or judgement.
The food at the grill is really great! Was a little disappointed with the fare at Irv’s bistro. Drinks at the bar at expensive but also very good. They had open mic/karaoke on Friday night and a terrific band on Saturday, both out on the pool deck. That was a lot of fun!
All in all, a great time and we are looking forward to going back.
Tips: bring lots of sun screen, obviously comfortable shoes to walk in (golf carts are ideal), you will do a lot of walking depending on where you are bugs are not that bad but are around, so repellent of some kind not a lot of fire wood around, bring...
