I recently had the pleasure of camping at Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground, and overall, it was a delightful experience. This campground has a lot to offer, especially for families with children, thanks to its ongoing investments in the space and the multitude of activities available. One of the standout features of Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground is their commitment to continually improving the amenities. During my stay, I noticed the addition of new playground equipment, which was a hit with the kids. It's refreshing to see the campground investing in creating a fun and engaging environment for the younger campers. Additionally, I was excited to hear about the upcoming development of a new event space, which is sure to enhance the overall experience for future visitors. Speaking of kids, one of the main reasons my children always enjoy camping at Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground is the opportunity to visit the animals. The campground offers a unique experience by allowing campers to interact with and learn about various animals on-site. This added feature truly sets Wolf's Neck apart from other campgrounds and adds an educational and enjoyable aspect to the camping experience. During my stay over the Memorial Day weekend, one thing that could have been improved was the operation of the cafe. It would have been convenient to have it up and running by then. However, I learned that there had been a change in management, which might have impacted the schedule. Although it didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the campground, it's worth considering for next year to ensure a smooth and complete experience for campers during peak seasons. Despite this minor setback, it's clear that Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground understands the importance of catering to families. The emphasis on creating a family-friendly environment and providing activities that engage children is a smart business plan. It fosters a sense of community and makes the campground an ideal destination for those seeking a memorable and enjoyable camping experience with their loved ones. Overall, I am pleased with my stay at Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground. The ongoing investments, the animal interactions, and the commitment to family-friendly offerings make it a standout choice for families looking to reconnect with nature. With a few improvements, such as the cafe operation, the campground has the potential to become an even more exceptional destination for camping enthusiasts. If you're seeking a campground that caters to families and offers a range of activities to keep everyone entertained, I highly recommend considering Wolf's Neck Oceanfront Campground for your next camping adventure. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings, engage with the animals, and create lasting memories with your loved ones amidst the wonders of nature.

I am very sad to post this. We loved this campground. Was our family’s favorite, returned year after year. Recently there have been changes in management, and the new manager (I never got his name, but he made it clear he has been there a year and is the boss) absolutely ruined our trip. We left there last week with a few days still paid for and will never go back. We trailer a golf cart (electric, registered and insured) and was told to put it back on the trailer immediately. This was at 7:30 am while fishing with my daughters, minding our own business. I asked if we could just bring it back at the end of the tide, had the kids all setup and fish were biting, but we were told no, gotta go back right now. The fishing spot is about one mile from the rv parking, and rvs are unable to be driven anywhere near the fishing grounds. We brought the cart every year to carry the gear, bait, cooler, etc, and never had an issue. Even showed one of the employees last year the rod holders and everything we set the cart up with just for this spot. Their website lists prohibited vehicles, and does not exclude golf carts. So, with sad kids we went to speak with the owner Liz, but she was unavailable to speak with us or her team until Thursday, this all happened on early Monday morning. So I requested a refund and was told “why, because you didn’t get your way?” Needless to say, I was pretty upset with how we were treated. If the golf cart was such an issue, it should have been listed on the website with the other vehicles. Also, if you are “the boss” of a campground, you should have some people skills. Another manager did come up to our site just as I had finished packing everything up (canopy, tables, chairs, blackstone, and loading up the trailer and tying down the cart) she was very nice and tried to help (she had only been there for a few weeks and didn’t have the authority to override the other guy) and make things better, but we had already decided to book a spot at another campground. I do appreciate her and her professionalism. She went on to say they don’t have a policy on golf carts, but unregistered vehicles can be ticketed if they drive down the main (dirt) road that cuts through the campground. But they don’t have a policy on them, electric bikes, or any other registered vehicles. With everything that goes into these trips, I’ll never take the chance of having such a bad experience again here. Waited for a call to see if there was an explanation, but it never came, so I’m reluctantly posting this.

The campground (CG) was peaceful, quiet and very dog friendly. All RV sites have water & electric but no sewer. Tent sites share water spigots with no electric There is a nice new dump station that can accommodate 2 RVs. There were adequate toilets around the CG and one shower facility. It’s a long walk to showers from East & Middle Bay. The price was high as we paid over $64 per night including ME taxes. There is a neat little store and takeout food near the check in office. The CG is within a farm so the farm is open for visits and learning activities. Chickens roam freely throughout the CG. We stayed in site 418 which was level and only required tongue height adjustment on the RV. There is an outhouse across from that site and we did get an odor several times during our stay. There is one playground in the West Bay section that is a little dated but functional. 3 stair cases allow access to the bay which sits about 15 feet lower than the CG. The kayaking is spectacular but you have a 3-hour window when the tide is up. They list those times on your welcome package calendar. Main Street in Freeport has tons of outlet malls, great breweries, restaurants and the original LL Bean store. Many places had outdoor seating due to Covid. There are cabins to rent with great bay views. They had porta-potties beside them so we assume they had no toilets inside. The CG maintenance was lacking a bit and they may have been understaffed due to Covid… The grass was tall all week and they mowed it just as we were leaving. HA! The dumpsters were full and we had to cram our trash in there. They parked a farm tractor with a tank at one dump station all morning so we had to wait in a line to use the only dump station available. Check out is 11am so, they should avoid parking things at the dump station between 9-12 o’clock. Our firepit was full of ashes and no site prep had been completed. The staff was very nice, polite and non-intrusive. Local radio station 107.1 was awesome! It was easy to get tons of TV stations off our RV antenna pointed towards Portland, ME. All in all, we did have a great time and will return again someday despite the high prices with no full hookups.

I had been forewarned about WNOC while staying at another Freeport area campground the week before my 6 night stay. "Snobby" "Uppity" were some of the terms used. This proved to be true at check in when I was told in no uncertain terms that even though the site was vacant I could not do an early check in a few hours before 1PM. The site was clean and ready to go. NB: the site cleaning includes taking any leftover firewood so they can resell it according to another camper I met, negating the time honored tradition of leaving leftover firewood for the next camper. A schedule change required me to book an extra night's stay, which was accommodated by just moving to the next site over. I booked it, paid for it at the counter and was told just to make the move over that day by 11 AM to make sure the site was open for the next camper. When I went up to reservations that morning to get my new tag I was roundly scolded by the clerk who said I HAD to wait until 1 PM to move my camper, even though the site was completely vacant and had been serviced the day before. NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!! she said at least THREE times in the conversation in her best school marm voice. I tried to tell her that I had only done what I was told to do, but to no avail. That's not POLICY she said over and over. Harrumph. So much for customer friendly service (not)! Elsewhere in this review site you will see the campground owner reply to a critical review "We are actually an organic farm that just happens have campsites" . You would never know this when you drive in to reception which includes a Cafe with $7 hot dogs, wood and ice, a large bike rental shop, canoe and kayak rentals, etc.. It would seem that camping IS the major business here. So rudeness and camper unfriendly policy seems to be OK because 'we really don't do camping here' ??? It's a beautiful place to camp, no doubt. But be forewarned!

Pro: Nice trails, working farm, great views. Cons: Poor customer service, rudeness, no benches in the dressing area of showers, full to almost overflowing porta potties.

Second Review I really wanted to like this campground, but was disappointed again on a follow up visit for 4 nights in August, 2022. All of the above noted problems were still in effect, save for a much nicer young person at check in who seemed genuinely interested in providing a friendly and informative welcome to the campground. The porta potties are still overflowing and disgusting. I did not see one cleaned in the 4 days I was there. The bathhouse in west bay is tired and shabby looking with no benches. My site's picnic table was on the verge of collapse and had protruding nails I banged in. And there was construction noise from a major project starting at 7 AM and lasting all day...hardly a relaxing getaway. Nothing on the website advises campers that they should expect this during their stay. It really does seem like the management really cares very little about the campers, who, by appearances, keep this place afloat with their very pricey camping fees for "oceanfront" camping. Go elsewhere, even a KOA would be better...

I found Recompense Campground quite by accident, just by Googling "Campgrounds near Freeport, Maine". There were others I could have chosen, but I lucked out choosing this one. I love to camp, but I had never stayed in a Campground before ... I am more of a wilderness camper. However, being by myself for a week, I wanted a place that I would feel safe, and also a place that was in close proximity to where I would be taking a a class. I was studying the Book Arts through the University of Southern Maine at The Stone House. It turns out it is just a stone's throw from the campground, so the location was PERFECT. My "commute each day that week was only a matter of minutes. My campsite was very tiny, but just perfect for me. It was #76, a site that had ocean views, though not easily accessible to the water. This was fine for my purposes, and I enjoyed the beautiful view of Casco Bay. My campsite had just enough room for a small tent, a picnic table, a campfire pit and my car. I was about 200 steps away from the bathroom, and a water spigot was right at the adjining site. The showers were very clean ... 4 quarters bought me a luxurious 10 minutes of very hot, high pressure water. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I absolutely loved my stay, although I was out from 9-5 each day. However, next time I will add a day on each end to rent a bike, or a kayak and have some fun. I didn't go to the lobster bake, and REALLY wanted to go on the historic tour of the working farm, but my class conflicted with the timing. Next time I would very much like to do this. I loved seeing the working farm and how well run it was. My 'neighbors', a herd of very interesting cows, were in the field across the road from my campsite, and were very friendly. My other neighbors, the two legged kind, seemed to all be very nice people. I met one couple at the showers one morning. The husband was a rare book conservator, and he and his wife were registered for a running race in nearby Cape Elizabeth. The campers all respected the quiet time in the evening, and I found the entire place to be very quiet and nice ... even on Saturday night. I checked out a lot of the other sites, but I loved where I had been assigned and would request it again. I am a writer, and had some writing deadlines while I was there, and the WiFi near the store and Snack Shack was strong and great to tap into. I loved my entire experience at this campground and would like to become a member. The work this non-profit group does is marvelous. I highly recommend staying here. It is also right next to a state park, so there is...
