I'm a United States Air Force Veteran. I give my fellow Camping Friends, Hosts, and a few young FSRA employees 5 Stars. This is, however a mixed review. I also have a College Bachelors Degree and 10 years Law Enforcement Experience, 5 of which I served and protected this very park.l and the County. I'm not living at home and I Ann a Minister, Free lance Writer and Photographer camping for 92 consecutive days envolving myself with several projects. By this current definition I am "homeless and sleeping in a High Profile Black Van that sticks out like a sore thumb, sneaking around and sleeping in it without paying fees". Only through fatigue, exhaustion, dehydration did I have to park, rest, or sleep after arriving in the late AM hours, sometimes during extreme weather conditions. It was recently made loudly clear to me, in front or registering campers at the Park Headquarters Building, that no more "favors" were to be allowed. I have paid over $400 in camping fees of which they could not provide me any receipts for. Hmm. The last campsite I paid for was a tent site in a remote neglected area called Lake 4. I didn't have a tent. I was given special permission to sleep in my Van, or "camping unit", so I slept outside in a hammock. At my site was a mangled rusted out fire pit and a nearby pad locked restroom. Same fee if I were a tent camper among the elite. This is why 2 Stars. Prejudged and discriminated against, my last campsite experience was the best. Be sure and Thank All Veterans for their Service. All in all...quite a memorable experience with Beauty all around. Sunrises and Sunsets...the...
Read moreWe stayed for a week during the July 4th holiday. The campground is nice. Easy to navigate, roads are nice, the camping spots are nice too. The beaches are nice and sandy!!
The train can be noisy, but that didn't hinder our sleep any. We have a 2yr old also. Unless you are a very light sleeper then it may be an issue.
The downfall to this campground. 1: Victory lane showers are a lot nicer than pathfinders bathrooms, however: they cost more (1quarter=2min Pathfinder 1quarter=6min) nothing to break the bank. But the water will burn your hide right off. At least for me and I couldn't shower my 2yr old son with it that hot.
2: Pathfinder showers water was a great temperature. Except I felt the bathrooms were pretty dirty. SO much soap scum on the walls and having my son near them was grossing me out so I scrubbed it myself (the handicapped bathroom bc it had more room for us)
3: Bugs are pretty bad, the bug spray did help a bunch. It's not the campgrounds issue. Just a heads up. I just feel for the price you pay, the shower rooms should be a lot better condition. And soap...
Read moreThe park is completely neglected for a would be treasure. Trash everywhere. Campground hosts are more like free loaders than campground concierges. The shower houses have the water set at scalding. The fire pits are all rusty and bent and full of trash. The traffic and trains are constant. They only have one dump station so you can imagine the Sunday morning exit mess. The “concession” building they call the towline is a complete joke and offer nothing to campers. No firewood or bait or tackle sales in the park. If you plan on skiing at Victory Lake bring a helmet and a gurney because you will get run over by all the wave runners. Whomever is in charge, if anyone, needs to be replaced immediately. In a three word summary…...
