Swans falls campground use to be one of the best campgrounds.|| but the last couple years it has gone down hill. first off the staff use to be really friendly and helpful. the last time i made reservation the grumpy person on the other end of the phone call seemed like i just ruined her whole day and when we showed up it was the same grumpy attitude that was displayed on the phone.||The campsites were still littered with trash from the last campers and had about four or five days worth of ash and beer cans. ||The bathrooms looked like they hadn't been clean in a couple days or pumped out for at least a week or so. ||when the campground Stewart did come around it was on a noisy golf cart something i had never experience their before.||I know they have been trying to crack down on all the people partying and trashing the campground but their is no reason to treat all campers like they are the problem some people actually leave the campsites better and in our case cleaner then we found it.||||swans falls was a much better campground when it was run by the Appalachian mountain club since the sale to Saco River Recreational Council it has gone down hill...
Read moreIf you are planning to travel down the Saco River, the Swans Falls Campground offers a great place to launch, as well as a nice bear bones camp ground. There are a few outhouses available, and a small shop to buy basic camping supplies. Other than that you will be on your own. Each site seems to have a small fire pit, and they do sell wood in the store. If you stay at the campground and plan to get onto the Saco for a day of fun, the walk to the launch site is less than 5 minutes, and they allow you to bring a car down to help transport larger vessels (canoe, kayak, etc.). The outhouses are the one drawback of this site, and you should bring a headlight or flashlight with you when you camp here, because nothing is lit up at night so you will need to search for these small, smelly shacks in the middle...

However, it has a beautiful location with a sandy beach on the Saco River and the sites are all plenty large and well spaced apart from each other. There are 5 clean outhouses for the 20 site campground and there is potable water available in 2 different locations. The camp store has all of the expected basic products and firewood is $5 per bundle. We stayed here the Friday night before the Fryeburg Fair, and we were surprised to be one of only three groups in the entire campground! It was a very pleasant place to stay, and I feel that it justified the somewhat higher price for...
