We stayed at Stone's Gate City Lodge because every other room within 60 miles was sold out. Located in building that was a small church in a previous life, there is not one thing luxurious about the Lodge, but it may be the best value lodging we have ever experienced. The clean top and bottom sheets on our comfortable bed did not match. The clean and fluffy towels were all dun colored. The clean bathroom was completely adequate without a single frill. Our room did not have a television but the shared television lounge was furnished with comfortable and garishly upholstered sofas. No refrigerator in our room, the community kitchen in the basement was sufficiently furnished to prepare a simple meal. There is no breakfast and no swimming pool. We paid $45 for the night. If it had been available, adding another $70+ would have secured a much more nicely appointed accommodation, but what is a swimming pool, breakfast, in-room television, art work on the wall, etc. worth? We may stay at the Gate City Lodge again when visiting...
