We live nearby and visited friends there who had rented one of the three small cabins. They were very happy with the cabin and showed it off to us. There was what looked to be a double bed and a set of bunk beds, a small dorm-size refrigerator, and a window air conditioner. The cabin was very clean, cute, and other than not having a TV or it's own bath, it was as nice as a motel room-- and dogs are allowed. There was a nice picnic table, a large grass yard, and the combination office/camp store/bathroom/shower building, and the playground area was a short walk away. There were three cabins. We had pop and pizza delivered to the office area by Danny Boys Pizza from nearby Geneseo. The bathroom/shower building was very clean and well lighted, and clean wash cloths were available for guests to use. Guests like us check in and park by the office (no cost). Our friends were very happy with the campground, and reported that the only alternative for someone like them traveling through the Geneseo area with a dog was one older motel. Our friends had their own bedding with them, as they did not have a camper. The campground is large, has lots of shade trees, and looks to have kayaks for rent. There is a local "prairie " park that is nearby, and hiking trails through the woods and prairie are accessible nearby. Fishing is available nearby in the Hennepin canal and Green River, and the Rock River and Mississippi Rivers are within a 15 to 20 minute drive. The small, pretty town of Geneseo is also nearby, and offers plenty of shopping, restaurants, bar and grills, as well as a bowling alley, dairy queen, fast food, Walmart, Farm and Fleet store, etc.. The Quad Cities are about 20 minutes away.

This is a very well kept campground. Easy access(be sure to heed the low bridge warnings) and clean. In fact, the bathrooms /showers are the cleanest I’ve ever seen at any campground! Staff is very friendly. Camp store has essentials and is reasonably priced. The canal is right next door and the campground has kayaks and canoes for rent. There is a nice path that runs adjacent to the canal for walking. This park is dog friendly with a nice enclosed dog park and plenty of stocked poop bag/disposal stations scattered throughout the park. WiFi is excellent! Sites are level but tight. Roads are gravel and well maintained. Geneseo is close by and is a quaint town with cute shops and friendly people. Visit the State Street Cafe for delicious food! The reason I’m giving the campground 4 stars instead if 5 is because our site (27) had no shade at any time. We didn’t get relief from the sun until it set. Our awning didn’t even help. Our pop up didn’t either. This was a huge disadvantage to us as we were unable to sit outside during the day. It was just too hot. I realize there isn’t anything the campground owners can do about that except maybe let us know when we booked the site. There are a few sites like this, so pay attention when booking. This will not dissuade us from returning as the pros far outweighed this one con. But, we will not stay at site 27 again.

I can't say enough good things about this campground. I've made yearly trips here for the past 5 years and Bob & Sheila sure make it is a comfortable stay. We stayed in a cabin this year, it was clean and comfy with plenty of amenities (heater, refrigerator, microwave). This year, we happened to notice that a unique decoration had disappeared and being the inquisitive type, we asked. Then it mysteriously reappeared with a personal note attached. It was a super nice gesture. We were going to have a few family in for a celebration meal and they let us use the banquet facilities so that we could be more comfortable. On one night, we were going to do steaks on the campfire and Shelia made sure we had the nice sturdy paper plates for our meal. We aren't the favorite or most frequent guests, it's just how they treat everyone, I just love staying here.

We had a confirmed reservation and received good communication leading up to our stay—but the actual experience was deeply disappointing.

After 11 hours of driving, we arrived around 8:15 PM to find our assigned site already occupied. There was no on-site staff and only one number posted for after-hours help. My husband and I called and texted multiple times, but we didn’t hear back for over 12 hours—long after we had to deal with the situation ourselves.

We parked in a neighboring site with no power, in humid, hot conditions, while traveling with pets. About an hour later, we learned that the spot we moved into had been assigned to another guest, putting them in the exact same stressful position. This clearly wasn’t just a fluke—it was a sign of poor site management.

The bathroom facilities felt neglected and unkempt - the shower drain channel was exposed and visibly covered in mold and mildew.

I respectfully requested a refund and was ignored until after posting my review.

I saw many positive reviews before booking, but my experience was the opposite. We did not feel safe, or cared for - if there truly had been an emergency there would have been no support.

Even if a refund eventually comes, this was the worst night of our trip—and it easily could have been avoided. I would caution other travelers to think twice.

*Update: A refund was issued after my review was posted. I appreciate the gesture, though the experience itself reflected serious gaps in support...
