Perhaps one of THE best campgrounds we have ever been to! I have some comments, basic FYI notes (not complaints) while some are more of the constructive criticism. Nothing of which should be misconstrued as complaints as I WILL be coming back. Pack and rack'em! We stayed on the lake front spots and they were so close to each other that you could hear your neighbor snoring. One neighbor overtook their lot onto the lot we were assigned making it difficult, no impossible, to back our RV onto it. The strip was only 1/2 full so went to the office and requested a spot we liked and they obliged but only with grumbling. Note, some of these sites have a tree directly in the middle of the spot making it literally impossible to park an RV. Get the map, and choose your site. site reservations are not on the booking page so will have to talk about that later. Military discount. THANK YOU for your respect. However, when I checked in, I was tired (driving) and forgot to ask for the military discount. When I checked out, I was told sorry, already paid and they do not honor military discounts after payment is made. I called the SunSet resort company and they said I was at the mercy of the management company of the park itself. Keep in mind, there reservation page does not ask the question of veteran status or not. Holiday Inn website always asks the questions then says you need to validate your status upon checkout and a message has been sent to the resort letting them know a veteran is on their way. lights, golf carts. Sunset RV has an unofficial nightly contest to see who has the golf carts with the brightest lights. Everything closes down in the evening except for the golf cart races. The only way to get into the race is to have a redneck golf cart with lights bright enough to light the neighborhood. OH, don't forget the music! Trying to get some sleep was difficult as folks were driving around the park, drunk, some doing spin outs, other blaring their radios, while the majority of them beaming their uber bright lights into your line of sight (bright enough to be seen from Mars)... Seriously, how bright of a light does one really need? Staff! WOW! Professional, courtesy, and definitely appreciated. Dump station. not a complaint but please upgrade your simple dump station to meet the capabilities of modern RV's. They offered a rinse hose (thank you) but there is not connection to connect even my own grey water hose to my RV to flush it. Shame on me for not being fully prepared for this but never again. Still, instead of a cut off rubber hose, put on a fixture so I can either connect my grey hose or connect directly to the flush connection itself. For what we paid, this would be a very simple and inexpesive upgrade. Check in. Check in was efficient and logical and easy! FAST. kudos! Pool was AWESOME! one of the best yet! Clean, large. Could do better without the multitiude of personal loud speakers. Grounds were clean! I even saw insecticide people spraying the grounds for bugs. Thank you. Cost. A bit on the pricey side. price included the miniature golf which was a very nice and clean course. However, I had to pay for my own balls ($2 each ball). For the price of staying, I think they could afford to give me 2-4 balls at check in. PM Closure. Maybe we missed something but it seemed like things closed at weird times like the pool (early PM). If things are closing then fine, I accept that but I was not made ware of what times these things closed. To be honest, I got the impression permanent residence were treated differently. Example: we went to the store to get my children an ice creme cone. Yes it was late, 9:10, and were turned away because they said they closed at 9. OK, fine, can live with that but then at about 9:20 while in the parking lot, we notice a family coming out of the store with ice cream cones while walking to the permanent sites area. Again, maybe I missed it somewhere but would have been nice to see times...
Read moreAsk questions before booking!!! My father recently booked a reservation and, 5 days before, needed to cancel due to some unforeseen family circumstances. He was told there would be a $50 cancellation fee, and the deposit he'd put down would not be refunded to him. Instead, it would be placed in a "guest account" to be used at a later time. This is the first time my father has owned an RV and planned to stay at a campground. When he made the reservation, he was not told there was a cancellation fee or that he would not get the deposit back. When we questioned the policy and asked why he wasn't made aware, we were told that the information regarding the cancellation policy is outlined in the email confirmation they send. It can also be found on their website. However, being a retiree from the "old school" era, he doesn't have email or internet access. When pressed, the ladies at the RV park explained that they don't generally provide information regarding their cancellation policy over the phone. So if you're someone who doesn't use the internet, you're essentially flying blind. You'll likely be charged for something you had no knowledge of. Legal? Not sure. Wrong? Most definitely. After reaching out to the manager myself, via email (I'm an internet enthusiast), we ultimately got only a partial refund. They questioned my father about the reason for cancellation and he expressed that it was a personal family matter. They asked him a second time, wanting to know the exact reason for cancellation. When he insisted that he wouldn't share private family business with them, they finally relented and dropped it. I've never visited this establishment, and probably never will, so I can't speak to the quality of the campground itself or condition of the on-site equipment/activities etc. But having read several reviews as of late, I doubt I would have anything positive to say. I can only judge the manner in which this situation was handled. Being a manager myself, it's disheartening to know there are people out there conducting business like this. So again, I say.....ask many questions before even thinking about making a...
Read moreThis place is over priced. It does offer a lot as far as a pool, indoor toddler zone, 2 parks, jump pad, volley ball, mini golf, plenty of spaces. They have concessions and a little store. Planned activities/itinerary. Plenty of indoor space for rainy days. But - it’s very strict - we joke they have a “no fun” policy.
Their new jump pad is horrible, you can’t jump on it. It used to be the kids favorite thing and is now unusable.
The pool was very dirty (bugs!). Our group called several times to have this fixed with no success. It left several swimsuits with holes all over and didn’t smell good. It was decently warm and plenty of room even though it was busy.
The bathrooms are nice and clean. A few toilets and showers with good pressure. There are 3 sinks and only ONE worked, leaving a huge awkward line.
The canoes and paddle boats were filthy and filled with water - unusable.
No e-bikes or kids little battery operated cars (no fun allowed). Only motorized options besides your vehicle is renting one of their golf carts ($$). It’s a huge place with paved roads so it’s nice to have something if you need to get to the shower house or pool. We brought bicycles.
Huge old shade trees are nice depending on the site. Big community of seasonal people; although we know several who have pulled out due to increasing prices and decreasing fun.
We used to stay here several times a year and now only once every 2-3 years and probably not again.
Customer service used to be worse; this time the checkin lady was very pleasant! You go through the drive thru then have to park, go inside, and get checked in. Not ideal with kids and traveling - I feel like they could just hand you everything through the window.
This place has been here forever, revolving names/ownership and has been growing. It is right next to Tyson but it’s not a problem besides traffic...
