Gilmer Inn and the only other hotel (Executive Suites) are owned and operated by the same management. As a monopoly on hotels in this small and otherwise friendly town they did a poor job of making guests comfortable and showed lack luster hospitality.
Myself, a friend, and our 5 children had a major car system malfunction while passing through which required us to stay over night. We choose to stay at Gilmer Inn instead of Executive Suites because their pool was closed for unknown reasons.
Upon checking in, our room was stifling hot. The outdated a/c wall unit struggled to cool the small room for hours. The bed spreads were outdated and thread bare and it appeared they had not been recently laundered.
We noted what appeared to be boogers on the walls in several places which indicate a lack of care from the cleaning staff and low standards overall of the management of their own property.
When it was clear to us that our car would not be ready in time for our check out of 12:00 we communicated with the staff and requested a late check-out which they were unwilling to accommodate. With no where to go and no car to take us anywhere else we were left to sit on their curb for several hours as a thunderstorm passed through town. We had to huddle under their awning to avoid getting wet while the desk clerk could easily see us from inside.
Our children intermittently used the lobby restroom and we witnessed the desk clerk mop over their wet foot prints each time they came in. We were eventually informed that the inside restroom was no longer open to us.
The towns people of Gilmer were largely friendly and helpful however I cannot in good conscience recommend Gilmer Hotel OR Executive Suites due to the callous and lack of concern they show for their guests.
I do understand they are a business and are not beholden to their guests to make concessions however small kindnesses go a long...
Read moreThis hotel is so HORRIBLE! I've been all over the United States and have never experienced a hotel as gross as this one! That is without exaggeration. The reviews that say this place is clean mustbe written by people who live in deplorable conditions or who are related to the owners. This place is far from clean!
It's smelly - like old cigarettes, animals, and feet. The carpet was filthy - it looked like blood or feces had dried in the carpet. The chairs are oily and smell. I think there is mold in the rooms. It looked like someone had tried to wipe some of it off the door post but left some behind. I got sick and my face was swollen after spending a night here. The light fixtures had dead bugs in them and the carpet had dead bugs in it, which let's me know the room hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The doors and walls looked like they hadn't been wiped down in years! Other people's hair was in the shower, toilet and on the walls. They say no animals are allowed but that's not true. I saw a big one going in a room. The hooks to hang clothes were broken. The bed spread had cigarette burn holes in it. If not for the two people at the front desk, this place would owe me ten stars just to get back to zero. I will sleep in my car before I go back there. The city of Gilmer ought to be too ashamed to let...
Read moreOut of respect for the staff (super friendly) I gave them 4 stars, want to give them 5, but this is a 3 star establishment. I have several complaints but ultimately I paid 57$ a night and I just needed a place to sleep. So 5 stars for being a clean, neat, recently remodeled hotel. Very clean. Staff is friendly AF. Rooms are great. New everything and colorful. The outside of the building has not changed since it opened. Now this place is 150 yards from a highly used train track. Noisy! They also made a mistake remodeling, placing the shower head in the 6' tub surround, cutting the fiberglass. This should have been above the top, extruded from the wall... For repair purposes, plus, why would you cut into a sealed wall area and add a potential water penetration point. Additionally, if your 6' tall, you need a chair. No breakfast, no coffee in the rooms, no vending machines... Could be so much more with a couple additional items. Overall, I would recommend staying here and will again if we come back through. Thanks for trying....
