We camped at the campground at the end of March 2023. We had a 30 foot travel trailer and our two kids (4 & 14). The weather was rainy and cold but we made the best out of it. The park size is great. They offer alot of activities like hiking/biking on the trails, paddle boating, archery and fishing. We did not participate in these activities since we didn't camp during the right season. We did walk the campground and my son loved playing on the big play ground with the other kids. The park felt safe as we seen the park ranger drive through several times during our stay. My only complaint is that MANY of the sites are extremely unlevel. We could not get our camper leveled side to side with our leveling system. It was like sleeping I'm a fun house. Other sites were unlevel front to back. To the extend that the front of their travel trailers were sitting on the ground. The sites were back-in down hill! I would suggest driving through the campground before camping. We were at site 116 and will never stay I'm that site again. Some of the sites we jotted down that we liked were B42, B46, B50, B51. However there were others that were level. We will go back during the warmer months to take advantage of the water activities we missed out on.

Nothing spectacular here, and from what I've heard, they used to have a lot of riffraff and thought raising the prices would keep them out, which doesn't work, because riffraff exists in all economic brackets.||||The security patrol isn't anything more than an officer driving by in a SUV every once in a while. Typical unapproachable, isolated, vehicular patrol.||||People playing music loud enough it can be clearly heard from a distance. Off leash dogs, dirty bathrooms. Typical micro trash everywhere. The grounds aren't very well kept, not horrible, but not up to the price. They have installed a lot of new grills. Traffic noise is excessive, because it's surrounded by high traffic roads.||||I watched as an aggressive, off leash dog, ran from their owners campsite, on onto the loop road after a child on a bicycle. An adult was with the child, to break off the chase. A lot of irresponsible pet owners camp here, just like many other average campgrounds.||||I stayed here several, separate nights, because of the location and it's the only game in town in regard to that. ||||In many parts of the country, this is a $10 a night campground, not $30+.||||They have a nice check in office/store/laundry, and the attendants there were very nice and helpful. There is a lake and they have boats for rent, as well as bicycles. The bike trail is just a dirt road, not an actual bike trail, and not worth hauling a bike here to ride. The laundry is a nice amenity for travelers.||||||It's location is the main thing going. Security needs to patrol the park by bicycle, more frequently and enforce the rules and laws. A high price does not automatically make it a better park or keep out...

Location was great with easy on/ off access to 64. Only about 15 miles from Hampton.||The people were great. Found them friendly, helpful and available both in person and on the phone. We arrived at 8pm and the office was still open to help us check in.|||The sites are spacious and very shaded. There are very few sites that weren’t very shaded and none of the sites had Rv’s Parked close together. Some sites had lake views. Some sites backed up to a civil war trench.||The bathhouses were convenient and had good showers. The water was strong and plenty hot. Each had 2 toilets and 2 showers. They did look outdated with peeling and mismatched paint.||Excellent trails. There’s a 5 mile trail that’s a gravel road that loops through the Park for walkers and bikers. There’s even a place to see the site where George Washington camped. Saw some unusual wildlife like 3 dipileated woodpeckers. The map shows other activities available like archery. The Newport News Park is just across the lake and it has lots of pavilions and a Japanese’s peace garden among other things. ||It’s a great place to either kick back and relax in nature or to drive to nearby places of interest. But you have to reserve in advance to get the spot you want because some sites are...
