$60/ night Electric/water
I have mixed thoughts on this campground. We stayed 10 days and loved it. There are over 300 sites here, for all types of camping, some have F/HU’s, some electric/water and some dry. All are back in sites. The majority of sites are up in the hills and can be ok for small RV’s .. we were in the lower section for Big Rigs. We truly had the very best site of all of them. We were in B14 and it was right at the entrance on a grassy knoll and looking straight out to the salt marsh/bay, so not private but very very spacious the site next to us was not spacious. The location is fantastic, an hour from Boston, 30 minutes from Salem. We explored the entire Cape Ann Area. Essex, Ipswich, Manchester but the Sea, Plum Island, etc. We happened to be in Gloucester for the annual Schooner Festival! Each place was filled with beauty and history. Kayaking and boating are easy and the beaches are gorgeous. The locals are so friendly we met at least a dozen people just out walking. They stop and chat. Wonderful folks! Now here’s the hard part. The roads are really tough to navigate there were a few dozen big rigs so it’s doable but tricky. The roads are narrow and curvy and hilly. The last three miles on the road in, is very windy but doable. The dump station is on a hill at a weird angle, it was interesting watching others maneuver it. (We used our “turd trolley” to avoid trying to get our rig in there) The sites are grass, and somewhat level, the mosquitoes are voracious!!! The rain made some sites a total mess. It was worth it all though because it really is an amazing town. We will definitely return. If you have any thought of staying just call ahead and talk to the staff they are very helpful and friendly. We had an...
Read moreThe park was easy to find. It is located about five miles from down town Gloucester. There is pavement all the way. Signage is adequate. Arriving at the park was challenging. The office is a way inside the campground but motor homes with a towed must disconnect right at the entrance which blocks in and out traffic. Check in was efficient, informative and friendly. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are paved but very very rough. The road up the hill is narrow and winding and the signage for the loops is not that great but doable without too much difficulty.
Our site, 167E, was a pull through that was just long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp and water only) were to the left side but the water faucet was a long way from the site. We carry extra hoses so not a big deal to us. Distancing is a bit close for a rural park. Each site has a table and a fire pit. Our site was pretty lumpy and sloped to the right (down hill) but we were able to position our rig so that we were fairly level. Overall the park was not bad. It was quiet and relaxing.
The park included wifi was surprisingly strong even though the park is quite heavily forested. There is no cable TV but we were able to find a few OTA channels. Satellite might be difficult. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them dated but clean.
There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be an okay base to use while visiting the nearby attractions. Star lost for the rough roads and poorly placed utilities. We paid $52.00 per night and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in...
Read moreThe campground is built into a steep hillside which you must drive halfway up then back into a site terraced into the hill. They tell you to call when you get there, so they can meet you at the bottom and you won’t have to go up the hill. This is very misleading and leads you to think the larger sites are at the bottom of the hill. They are not! They are terraced into the hill so that you are perched part way up a steep hill while trying to back into a site. The dump station is at the bottom of the hill but has a campsite right beside it so that you have to back down the steep hill into the dump station. (Yes, this was how they suggest you access it.) The road to get to the campground is also small and narrow, but to be fair that seems to be a common theme for Gloucester. Much of the town is narrow streets and hillside. I would highly recommend you look for a campsite elsewhere if you have a larger unit or if you are assigned a spot on the hillside (which seems to be most of them). It would be worth staying farther from town not to deal with the hill. Then, to top it off, we got to leave with pine sap all over our vehicle. Campgrounds really should choose other varieties of trees that don’t drop sap. They were friendly and utilities were all good including wifi, but you really need to know the stressful situation you may find yourself in if you chose...
