Last summer I took a trip with my son to New England… I knew that I wanted to stay on the sea somewhere in Cape Ann. Having seen the film the perfect storm, I knew of Glouchester Massachusetts and was delighted to find this Inn by the Sea online. The views are outstanding, and exactly what I dreamed I'd find in New England. It's gorgeous rocky coastline, and charming and were peaceful and such a delight for accommodations. We drove in from Salem and checked in before we headed to town for dinner. We really enjoyed the surroundings of the town. That night we had a lovely time just sitting on the large covered porch and listening to the sea and watching stars. The room was very well appointed, and clean; it appeared to have been recently remodeled and a bath and a farmhouse feel. The next morning I awoke before sunrise so that I could sit on the porch once again, wrapped in a blanket and see the dawn. It was incredibly beautiful against the sea. While the covered porch is shared between guests, everyone likes their privacy and no one was intrusive by any means. We took advantage of the wonderful breakfast at the main inn, before we checked out to continue on our travels. The ONLY negative I experienced here was that I'd have enjoyed taking a swim in the pool or laying out, but there was a family with two young children who were extremely loud and it kept me from being able to enjoy the morning once they appeared. I'm a mother so I understand it can be tough to corral little ones, but there was no attempt to quiet the children. This made me sorry to be near the pool, and I'd book far from it next time. You can't expect that other people will see the rudeness is allowing children to carry on with such loud shrieking. No one from the hotel staff asked them to please quiet down. This detracts from my review stars. Still a very lovely Inn in...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to take a trip to Salem, MA and we looked for accommodations in the area and found 0 availability. We decided to take a chance in Gloucester, MA and sure enough, we found the perfect oasis.
This hotel isn't your ordinary hotel, but the view couldn't be perfect. It overlooks the sea, like literally and sitting outside enjoying your coffee in the AM, hearing the waves hit the rocks is breath taking. The rooms are comfortable and you feel like you are in your own cottage. The AC system is by the window, easy to handle, and the pressure of the shower is incredible. The main lobby is a lovely sitting area with well rounded staff and owners. I had the opportunity to meet the owners and I cannot express how helpful, professional, and kind they all were during our stay.
I highly recommend this place, especially if you rent a car and need to get around and visit the nearby towns.
Thank you again for a...
Read moreNice accommodations with pool in a great location overlooking Bass Rocks and walking distance to Good Harbor Beach. Small refrigerator and microwave in room, but a/c units are very noisy, old and inefficient and mattresses are lumpy with some sort of plastic undersheet which crinkles with each movement. Both are in dire need of replacement. Hot coffee (even when it's 90 degrees out) is offered free in the lobby, but no breakfast. Iced coffee or a cold lemonade with a box of donut holes every morning or cookies in the afternoon would be much more welcoming. More time and expense has been devoted to the beautiful garden plantings to attract new tourists, but new ductless a/c and new mattresses (without the plastic undersheets) would ensure more...
