Nice campsite. There are flushing toilets (TP provided!) and drinking water taps; each pitch has a small BBQ, larger fire-pit with griddle, and a bench. Lots of shade; more or less every site will have some.
There is no host/ranger on-site but Paradise Campground is a very short drive away and has a host, who can sell you firewood ($10/bundle of 5 logs) and help with any problems. The host we met was very friendly and helpful. They are generally available 8a-8p, emergencies only after 8pm, but they do come and go so you may need to drop by more than once to find them.
The site is arranged on a gentle upward slope and most pitches will have a noticeable grade - fine so long as you think about which way to put the tent! The benches are set on concrete so they're level. The ground seemed generally soft, staking the tent was easy. (In April - maybe it gets harder later in the year!)
Pitches 1 and 2 are very near the road (Paradise Rd); it's not that busy a road but avoid these if that might bother you. Didn't bother us being at #1, and it is also really off to the side away from everyone else, which was quite nice. I'd avoid #2 if possible, it's near both the main road and the campground entrance/info board, and not that private from other pitches. #3 and #14 both looked pretty good - secluded, further back from the road, and relatively flat. Didn't nosey further...
Read moreBeen planning this trip for a while and it did not disappoint. Pros: beautiful area. Lots of wildlife, we saw wild turkeys and heard frogs and owls at night. Plenty of space in each site and the sites are spread out so you don't feel like you're on top of each other with your campsite neighbors. Lively enough but people are generally respectful of being quiet late at night. Dog friendly! Has picnic table, fire pit, bench, bbq and plenty of shade trees. Very close to things to do such as the beach, Solvang etc, camp hosts were friendly and made sure to clean each site between guests.
Cons: biggest complaint I have is that the restrooms were closed and the only available toilets were porta pottys. I know that's a covid thing but the porta pottys were absolutely rancid. I had to cover my face to keep the smell down and still physically gagged. No toilet paper either. Another thing and it's not really the campgrounds fault but it was a huge shock in temperature from the beach to the campsite. If I had to guess I'd say 20 degrees more hot. We set up the tent quickly and went back to the beach until evening. So just be aware. Keep in mind there's lots of poison oak to avoid and no cell reception. Not a big deal but just...
Read moreCamped here 4/11/2025. Beautiful setting right off Paradise Road. The host is nice. It wasn’t too buggy but there were lots of mosquitoes at dusk. Trash, water, and recycling were good. The campground was quiet. The host sells wood, $10 per bundle. The bathrooms are closed and porta potties are setup instead. The porta potties are clean but, still, there should be good serviceable bathrooms at all of the campgrounds along this road — I don’t think any of the campgrounds had useable restrooms with flush or pit toilets. Most sites are somewhat sloped — not the worst, not the best. Ample space between sites is nice. This part of the Santa Ynez Valley and river is very beautiful, especially in the spring. All-in-all a nice campground in a beautiful part of CA with facilities that have seen better days. Your tax dollars hard at work barely keeping the public facilities in...
