Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn — Hotel in Gonzales

Time for an updated review. This is specifically for the restaurant.

Always upon walking in I'm greeted immediately. The staff is always very helpful. Be aware that this place is very busy during breakfast. It's packed and highly recommended to always make reservations.

A few of my favorite things from the breakfast menu are. Eggs Benedict French toast Huevos rancheros

The eggs Benedict is by far the best here. Their house made hollandaise sauce has just the right amount of lemon juice and seasoning. Perfect consistency in thickness. Highly recommended.

French toast. The bread is evenly battered. You can taste a hint of vanilla extract in the batter. It's SO delicious.

Huevos rancheros. Salsa is fresh. Eggs are cooked perfectly. Everything is the way it should be.

I don't need to keep going on here. But let's. The decor is impressive and makes sense for the location and atmosphere. The seating is warming and home feeling. This place is NOT FOR KIDS. Please don't bring loud children ruining peoples dining experience. A lot of places in Big Sur actually have a no kids policy.

Ok, where do I start, I have travelled the world and this place is at the bottom of the list, the most terrible place I have ever stayed in my entire life. Room price: Over priced, no water in the room and the most uncomfortable bed ever. The bathroom is almost nonexistent, if you wink, you miss it!!! Reception: The most un welcomed reception area and receptionist, no hello or welcome, she was not interested at all! In fact she left at around 3pm and the reception was close for the rest of the day, in fact no reception in the morning or when you check out, no one available to ask anything! Place to eat: Nothing was open, the Restuarant was close, so call yo make sure they even open, breakfast was terrible, said the room rate include breakfast, this is a joke!!

So I assume all the other reviews you reading are all lies and friends and family member did them, or Americans are use to getting terrible service and over pay!!

Let’s see if the owner or manger will respond or call me, cos I am disgusted with they way this place is being handled!

Beautiful place, however, it lacks many things. If you just want to go over and stay in a quiet cabin this is the place. However my idea of going there, to Big Sur, was to be able to find several trails to hike and to have access to the ocean. However I was not able to do any of that from this location. The cabins are surrounded by nature but if you wanna go hiking or see a river/creek or even walk to the beach this is the worst place to stay at. This is just a place to take pictures. There’s only one trail which leads up the mountain by a dirt road which is really sunny. And as you walk you find a sign that says that you can’t trespass so practically you can just see the ocean from far away but you can never access it from there and you cannot really walk into the woods. There is no TV or radio no amenities close by. The restaurant is closed in the afternoon. this is just a place to spend the night but not really enjoy your vacation because you have to drive out to dine or to hike or to go to the beach.. it’s very sad that such a beautiful location doesn’t have...
