Buckhorn Resort on Caribou Lake is a beautiful remote getaway that is easy to get to. Located just 23 miles north of Grand Rapids, MN, we found it to be just a short 5 hour drive from Rochester. We stayed in Lake Home #7. This place is the Taj Mahal of Minnesota resort accomodations. This cabin features 4 spacious bedrooms, each with a sliding glass door to the outside. We enjoyed our morning coffee watching the sun rise over this gorgeous clear water lake which mirrors the surrounding sky and towering pines, and is home to many wild birds including loons. We launched our boat from a nearby public access, and then kept it tied to our own private dock that was easily accessible from this cabin. The home interior features an open kitchen with surrounding bar, as well as a spacious dining room table that seats 8 comfortably. The natural stone chimney surrounds a safe wood burning stove that creates a cozy ambience all year around. This log cabin home exhibits quality craftsmanship throughout its spacious two levels, with a full upper sun deck which faces the lake, and a lower walkout basement perfect for loading fishing gear or taking inner tubes down to the lake. We found Caribou Lake challenging to fish, but were able to find walleye, northern, and perch on the neighboring lakes of Bowstring and Big Winnie. This log home is perfect for two or more families for an entire week or more. There is ample room to accomodate a large number of people without feeling cramped. You are sure to love this amazing remote resort located in the beautiful Chippewa...
Read moreWe just stayed in Cabin #6 for Memorial day weekend and it was amazing! We were 6 adults and 5 children and found the lodging very comfortable. Kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with all the necessities.
The cabin certainly has charm! Large logs, beautiful views and lots of room to gather, chat, relax and socialize! The furnishings have a cozy worn (but not worn out) quality that make it feel as if you are staying at a relatives place. Cozy blankets and throws everywhere, a rocking chair, board games -- all creating a super homy feel.
The surrounding forest serene and flush with spring growth, the lake clear and calm, fire ring ready for the 3 late evenings we spent chatting by the fire after the kids went to bed and the pier welcoming to watch the breathtaking stars far away from the light pollution of the city and accompanied by the haunting cry of the loons over the lake. (As a side note, one of the guys in our group actually had some success fishing. My spouse and I do not fish, but he seemed ecstatic)
Peg is a whole different paragraph! The host was incredible! I ended up calling her multiple times asking for help in figuring out something or other in the cabin as well as requesting directions and advice on local trails. She was incredibly gracious and patient explaining in everything and inviting me to call again.
Overall our stay was was just wonderful in the complete and truest sense of the word. We are definitely...
Read moreThis is our second trip within 6 months! The first time we made it there we booked it right away for the Presidents' Day! It is an incredible place, very special. We go there as a large group with tons of kids and adults and everybody always have tons of fun! It is nice to work with the owner - Peggy makes it as if you are staying at her house vs. resort. She is very nice, houses are always clean, rates are very affordable and of course - THE VIEW! lakes... rolling hills, SILENCE! I have not heard silence before in my life - it was a bit scary at first. and at night - milky way, TONS of stars! I remember my thoughts in the evening on the deck "it looks like an incredible painting"! I highly recommend. Because of this place - our group of close friends created an...
