Highly recommend!
BLUF (Bottom line up front) If you are looking for a place to make memories with family - or just your partner, friends - whoever...this is it. My kids already want to go back, and much of this is due to the owners Rodney & Katie.
This is a resort with cabins & the cabins are roomy, clean and everything you need is available. If you didn't bring it you can be sure that North Star has some handy. The staff are constantly grooming trails and making the rounds to make sure every guest is satisfied, the owners will and have fulfilled requests within 20 minutes after asking...that was unexpected. The community fire pits are great and have allowed me to meet some people that I maybe never would have. Hiking trails are great and the morning coffee off the south west observation deck is a fantastic way to start the days. From an activities view - everything is included (bikes, lawn games, shuffleboard, kayaking, canoe etc...) and some awesome trampolines and climbing mountains in the lake for kids - adults. Being a host in the resort business usually means satisfying folks - but Rodney & Katie aren't doing it because it's what they are supposed to do - they genuinely care about the folks they are hosting and want to make sure guests are taken care of. This was our second of many years to stay with North Star - the perfect spot to make memories - don't dream...
Read moreMy extended family and I have been coming here for 16 years straight. We usually have around 40 or more of us, so there are about 3 or 4 cabins left ever. We love coming back here, even if it is a little expensive for the amenities. Eric and Nancy, the two main people who run it are amazing. They have both devolped such great relationships with everyone we can't imagine not coming back. Nancy runs a great child program called kindernook from 10:30 to 12:00 every weekday. It's so much fun for the younger kids, as there are crafts, books, and games during the period. Having older kids to help is always great too. The games that Eric sets up are amazingly fun. He promotes mixing of the other families with ours. The beach is a little small, but the water trampoline and swimming area are very nice. The reasonably new kayaks are a great addition, and you can rent fishing boats and pontoons as well. The cabins are nice, usually 2 get upgrades each year. Water pressure is a little low, but what do you expect? We will always come back here because we love the whole atmosphere so much! The lodge is great, the community feel is nice, and it's close enough to Grand Rapids (45 min.). Definitely stay here if you're looking for a north...
Read moreThe resort was a peaceful, tranquil place to spend a summer week. We had a family gathering of 14 people in 4 cabins, from grandparents to babies. The resort owners were very helpful and eager to make our stay great in any way they could. The grounds are clean and well taken care of, although the ground is very uneven in spots. Us oldies had to watch where we stepped but the kids just ran all over the place. The cabins are clean and basic, no frills, but have all that is necessary including kitchen basics, bedding, heat if needed, AC, TV with remote, clean grills, patio furniture and picnic tables. Paper products are provided from the office at the lodge when needed. There are stores nearby, within 15 minutes, with necessary supplies like food, and beer/wine. We loved the beach with plenty of loungers and seating, the kayaks, paddle boats, fishing from the docks and very reasonable pontoon rentals. North Star Lake is picture perfect with breathtaking sunsets, misty mornings, local loons entertaining us with their call and antics and copious amounts of delicious bass! The cons, for us, are : no washer or dryer, no basic grocery supplies to purchase onsite, LOTS OF BUGS. Wished we could stay longer and we...
