I think better information about the place would be helpful. I stayed here with a large group this summer (2018). We got in late but the hosts were very accommodating. I stayed in a cabin while most of the group stayed in the lodge. The cabin has a propane heater and one propane light. It was raining when we got there. I was soaked from a rainstorm while on atv's (129 mile ride over the Magruder Corridor) My hands and clothes were wet when I was handed a small book of paper matches to light my own heater and light. These aren't intuitive as they are old and probably should have been blead of air before attempting to light! Oh, did I mention the propane bottle that is outside was turned off? Bring a butane lighter! The cabin light is too weak to read by, so if your time away includes a good book... Bring a headlamp if you're in the cabin. The cabin cannot be locked while you are out, so plan for the "honor system" if you have valuables. Those that stayed in the lodge said that the rooms were great and comfortable. They charge extra for bedding. The meals are served at a dining table in the office area. There was a big screen TV and chairs/couch. We didn't feel that these were for the guests at all. They had family staying over who were sleeping on them and occupied them the whole weekend. That being said, the only place to converse with your own group was poolside. The only bathrooms were in the office area, so you had to walk by the owners family to use them. Showers are by the pool. Lights in the showers and bathrooms are motion activated. They turn off and leave you in the dark way to fast. No complimentary soaps or shampoos. Bring your own. Coffee is available but without any flavored additives. I'm a tea drinker but hot water wasn't available without asking for it. I waited at the table to order breakfast but the host was on his laptop and didn't recognize me. I headed into Elk City for breakfast instead. The food that I did have at the Hot Springs was tasty and plentiful. To walk to the office, you walk by a leanto that is used for storing old mattresses, cardboard, lumber and other things you might not associate with Lodge scenery. I spent 10 summers at a very rustic cabin as a kid. I loved it, but I knew what to bring and what to expect. Elk City is a half hour drive for...
Read moreWe arrived early, were allowed to go to our room (although, we were prepared to wait). Were given the biggest room in the hotel (5 beds), there were only 3 of us, my husband, myself and our grandson. The rooms are mediocre, you can see the age in them. The plug in the bathroom did not work, had to use a plug by the front door to charge phones AND curl my hair. The pool was full (and I mean FULL) of algae, my grandson and I cleaned some of it out while he swam. Got up at 5 the next morning, my husband waited until 6 to try to get some coffee. The office was locked, one of the owners came to the door and basically said it was too early and the coffee was not on yet. A couple of hours later, I took my g-son to swim and was told that the coffee was on. I grabbed close to the last bit from the pot, was told they would start another so I text my husband that coffee was on. Half an hour later, he came for coffee... there was NOT a fresh pot and he accepted the dregs from the bottom (with grounds). Before we left, about an hour later, he went for more coffee with his personal coffee cup and was met with "you're not going to FILL that up, are you". Mind you, it was NOT a large cup. To top it off, we were billed a tip on our final bill that put our bill OVER $300! (They tipped themselves over $30 with absolutely NO services provided!) All that for 1 night, for 3 people and I didn't even have a second cup of coffee! We did go down the road for breakfast (to another establishment) and another cup of coffee. I had been to Red River Hot Springs many times over the years, as had my family (my parents honeymooned there in the 50's). But this will be my LAST stay there which...
Read moreWe were looking for a high mountain rustic 2 night getaway for Valentine's Day. Their location is awesome however management is very poor. When we arrived the parking lot and driveway needed plowed along w/ the steps being shoveled into the resort. The women's bathroom needed soap n 1 stall needed toilet paper.(Was not replaced during our stay) The public showers were frozen up, the neat wooden tubs had gross floating debree. (This was NOT minerals) Beside having to shovel our own path to the cabin and having to make our own bed, (mattress and box spring was 1980's technology) Our cabin had propane heat- which my husband woke with a heavy head. He checked his oxygen level with his watch and it was low. He had a red face when he woke. This was dangerous, he had carbon monoxide poisoning. We decided to check out for our safety, asked for a refund for the second night and was denied. She argued with us about the heater working just fine, when we mentioned there was no carbon monoxide detector (we deliberately searched for one) she was adamant there was one. This "resort" has real potential however needs management and a lot of maintenance. Sadly we will not...
