We spent the past year planning our August '24 wedding at Millstone Hill, and enjoyed our friends, family and the beautiful well-cared for grounds. Unfortunately, doing business with Millstone Hill and paying for agreed upon event/lodging accommodations as advertised is severely inadequate. Overall business transactions and communication was minimal and unprofessional. The lodging is not clean (pet hair and pet & mold smells in every building) and not in proper repair. Lodging and event space is inadequate for very very basic necessities that you will pay a premium for such as cleanliness, linens, soap, and basic appliances, add to this doors that don't lock or the key cannot be located by anyone, bedding in old and in poor condition, garbage at The Celebration Barn and Lodge not sanitarily managed, lighting and electrical outlets in the Lodge main dining not working and kitchen refrigerator The Lodge broken. None of this information or an expectation of change from what is advertised by Millstone was communicated to us in advance. There is no check in or check out process or list for guests to follow. We raised these concerns with the Innkeepers and requested fair compensation in person and e-mail requests. We paid Millstone Hill more than 10K, and refunded our guests for the hotel-rates they paid for significantly inadequate lodging. We have neither received our $500.00 security deposit without communication following repeated requests. The Innkeepers have either name called us, blamed us (actually tried to say we broke a door windowpane - a guest took a photo of upon their check in, thankfully) or ignored our concerns and requests entirely. If you choose Millstone Hill for your venue, be wise to rewrite the contract with your attorney for fair, and upfront dealings with Pierre & Frankie that include the customer as an equal business partner before signing on the dotted line.
Photos: we were not notified the refrigerator was broken, but guests at The Lodge discovered this by trying to put food in the drawers filled with ice, the fridge unplugged. Stained bedding. Shredded tea box and...
Read moreMy sister and our families stayed at the Lodge for 2 nights when we were in town for a commital service. Our family rented all the rooms at The Lodge at a very fair rate. The Lodge is quite convenient especially to the Barre-Montpelier area and other surrounding areas. It was easy to find. The Lodge itself was just great. A very nice floorplan for families with large sitting areas and also smaller, private sitting areas. The kitchen was VERY well stocked with utensils, pots, pans, spices, dishes, stemware and so on.
While we rented it as a family, it has a great floorplan to accommodate use as a conventional B&B. It is located in a very quaint community but yet is very private. Both my sister and I have vacation rental properties and have traveled considerably. This was one of the nicest properties we have utilized. It was a great property for our family but would also be great for a wedding or great alternative to a conventional hotel for anyone visiting the Barre-Montpelier area or beyond for business or pleasure. Great place for a family reunion as well with other buildings available.
I note that one reviewer had an issue with noisy boyscouts. We also were there on a weekend when the boy scouts were using the campground. We could not hear them at all. We understood that there were a lot of scouts there but could see no sign of them. We did take a ride out and saw from the other side of a distant tree line where they were in the campground, but they in no way disrupted our enjoyment of this lovely property.
Pierre and his partner are extremely knowledgeable about the area and its history. We took the opportunity to walk the trails and enjoyed talking with them about the area. There is some great granite sculpting going on at a spot on the trail that is definitely worth a look.
We are grateful to Pierre for maintaining this property and it is obvious he has taken great care to see that his guests are comfortable in this well appointed B&B. We experienced a wonderful time at The Lodge and would give it our highest...
Read moreThe Millstone Hill Barn is fascinating. It is in an old barn that was apparently originally part of a dairy farm, about 40 miles from its present location. The barn was disassembled and moved and reconstructed, with the plumbing and electrical lines hidden in the interior walls and leaving most of the original wooden structure open. And the effect is absolutely wonderful. ||The rooms are on many levels, and they all boast flea-market antique furniture and open-beam ceilings. It really is a delightful hodge-podge of rooms up and down little stairs. There is a large number of mounted deer heads and animal skins on the walls, so if you are queasy about that sort of thing then you might want to think again before you stay there. But combined with the barn wood, they give the inn a wonderful feeling of an Adirondack lodge.||The location is remote, probably a 10 to 12 minute drive from the nearest restaurant or bar in Barre, but it is near The Millstone Hill Touring and Recreation Center, a substantial hiking and reclaimed quarry center that I did not have an opportunity to visit. ||There is a variety of common areas on different levels, and an assortment of games for those who are interested. The many common areas allow for as much (or as little) privacy as one might wish for in order to read a book or play a game or just watch the Vermont sunset from the picture windows. There is also a full kitchen for the use of the guests, which makes up for the lack of coffee facilities in the rooms. I saw no televisions, so if you need your daily fix of cable news, you will likely be disappointed. ||The room itself was large, with a low, open-beamed ceiling and a king sized bed with a firm and very comfortable mattress. The shared bath was clean and up-to-date. Not all of the rooms have shared baths, but it may be something to keep in mind when you book. ||The only criticisms that I have might be that the carpeting in my room was worn and the inn's wifi was weak, but it was nothing that detracted from my stay. ||I would definitely return. I might even make it a...
