Visited this campground over Labor Day weekend, so we expected it to be crowded - we did not expect the absolute ragers into the early hours left unaddressed by staff. Planned to stay 3 nights, could only blearily manage 2.
After our first night, we requested a site change to put some distance between us and the 25-or-so folks in the site next to us blaring music and glaring klieg lights into our site until 3am. They let us change campsites (which was a pain, but whatever), only to have folks of a similar inclination (drinking, smoking, blaring music) set up camp next to us a few hours later at the new site. At the new site, we were a lot closer to the office building, but staff still never addressed the blaring music. To be fair, it's a 3-day weekend, probably the last floatable one of the year, and I know folks will party. Not butt-hurt about folks partying. I am a little upset that this campground confirmed in a phone conversation they were family-friendly (a vague term, I suppose, but one I understand to mean they'll discourage drunks from shouting near children between midnight and 5am?). And I feel they're knowingly misrepresenting themselves via "Rules" about music & noice advertised on their website (and even on their parking permits). The staff simply does not enforce these rules.
They charged us $70/night, which is pricey in my world, but they charged the partiers $18 per person per site. They're incentivized to have as many people as possible per site. They probably made at least $400/night off our neighbors. Of course there are ragers!
Sunday morning was another treat. There was apparently a pastor (maybe two) present, because the blaring club music was replaced by praise music overlaid by someone shouting a sermon through a microphone. That's right - they brought a microphone and sound system for a church service to the campground. Hallelujah! Again, no intervention from the staff. Amen!
Other notes:
The campsites are bare - no gravel, no pavement. Weather was good while we were there, but it would be a mess in rain.
Bonus: The dump site is directly across a narrow gravel road from the restroom building. Using it = blocking a major thoroughfare through the campground. While emptying my trailer, I was holding up traffic trying to get to the beach and bus stop. Fun!
The floating was awesome. Highly recommend the experience. It was crowded over Labor Day weekend, which is to be expected, but it was lovely, and my kids had a fantastic time. I'd love to find a place to camp along the Elk River that isn't quite so disrespectful to its guests. C'est la vie. If you have any recommendations,...
Read moreOver priced over rated 15 per person per night . Facility members that work acted like they were on drugs came to are camp saying they had noise complaints when they obviously didn't and when we went up front to ask about the location of the shower he used vulgar language to describe the location and his over way he acted very weird also notable we came out of shower and were told we smell good by someone who also works there little weird the spot we camped beautiful the float kinda slow no rapids to mention not really a child friendly in environment lots of drinking and nudity so party place yes, family definitely not, also one of our party members lost phone and when we went back to the place we launched get it they tried to keep his phone so people who work there probably not the most honest trust worthy and if you do take more than one person and record and definitely money hungry if you bring your own stuff they try to get over on you when you park your vehicle they try to get you to pay person in vehicle they ask how many people will be on their property and try to charge person also would advise locking all vehicles at night like I said about staff at night acted weird and felt more like we were being scoped out lucky we had 13 + people showers were nice hot and cold running water and that was...
Read moreNice place to camp and float, but beware of noisy road and tons of flies. The staff was amazing (especially Will), the bathrooms were clean, well-lit, and the hot water worked. Also, I don't know how it's possible, but the port-a-pottys were the cleanest I've ever experienced... They even smelled good! The elk river was nice but we caught it at a little shallow, had to drag it a few times... And watch out, there's a section that I think nearly everyone wiped out and tipped over, but that made it exciting I guess, haha. The canoes were the best I've ever used, they even had cup holders built in. The kayaks were nice too. The only only only reason I would knock a star off was because it was loudy from the nearby road... There was this majestic nook part of the river and Creek that was so nice to play and lounge in the water, but the road noise kind of ruins the nature seen. Also, the flies were ridiculous! I know that's just part of nature, but I've never been seen it that bad in the many times I've camped before. The flies made it so miserable that we almost left early. We tried everything... Netting, swatters, spray, camp fire, glue traps..... They were abundant and persistent. Had to eat food super quick or else they'd attack in herds. They are...
