Baltzell Motel — Hotel in Great Bend

It had been a while since I stayed at this location. It was being remodeled one room at a time last time I was there and appears to be done now.||||My room was quite large and very updated. I would estimate it to have approximately twice the square footage of many current hotel rooms. The king bed was extremely comfortable. The pillows were great too.||||The bathroom was large and even had a closet.||||The room came with an easy chair, a desk, a dresser, night stands, a microwave, and an apartment-size (not mini) refrigerator. Outlets were numerous and placed where they were needed. There was plenty of lighting. The flat screen TV came with a good selection of channels.||||Though the building is not new, everything in my room appeared to be. I consider this to be one of the nicest rooms for the price I have seen in a very long time.||||The location is toward the east edge of Great Bend making it very handy for anyone intending to visit the wonderful Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area of Kansas Wetlands Education Center.||||Parking was right in front of my door.||||The one downside was that the Wi-Fi seemed slow. I know that this is less of an issue as more people move toward using their phones with unlimited data plans for all on-line activities. I don't know if there is a breakfast. I also don't remember if there is a coffee maker. For some reason I think there was but since I don't drink it I didn't pay attention.||||I believe that the same family still owns this location with multiple generations involved in providing service. Any request I had was immediately answered in a very professional but personal manner that made me happy...

The Baltzell Motel is a diamond in the rough!

This family~owned and run motel gave us the cleanest, prettiest, most comfortable room we've had in many years, including in places more than twice the price. The furnishings are almost shockingly elegant - imported from a high-end DC hotel - and the memory-foam queen bed is sweet dream inducing.

The WiFi is reliable and very fast - 38-43 Mbps down, 21+ up; and the TV service is excellent. Kitchenette well equipped with mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker with abundant coffee, single in counter surface burner - even an Insinkerator! - all in like-new condition. (no dishes, cookware included)

The family staff are cordial and very helpful, and David, the owner, himself came in to quickly resolve the only (previous-guest created) issues we had. Lovely people! (Special thanks to both Dave and Lakin!)

We looked for an excuse to stay longer, unfortunately could not. But we truly hope we can visit here again.

First they need to up date there photos on the site. Out room was nothing like any of the photos. The price of the room was $49.07 but was in the site for $35.95. It did not say anything about 2 people staying in the room. Had to call office about the TV could not get working. She came to the room and said that the workers sometime play games and don’t turn it back. Had to rest set the TV every time it was turned of. I gave her 2 bottles of pop that was frozen in the freezer not ours. Ask about the door not closing. She said the all need weather stripping. The door out of wack and dead bolt didn’t work because of it and the parking for our room was to the side of building not wit the others on lot. Be very easy for someone to brake into it. We were in room 14. The lady from the office had also a attitude when coming to our room. Woke up this morning to roaches...
