A truly incredible location and available activities without leaving the property. However, our cottage had a few issues: mice and yellow jackets in the walls, no hot pads for the oven, and the toaster needed the handle to be manually held down while toasting. In fairness, we had no issues from the mice other than some gnawing noises in our bedroom wall early one morning, despite having a lot of bread, fruit, and snacks stored in open areas. Our son did get bitten by one of the yellow jackets that made its way into the cottage, but the on-site basketball court quickly distracted him from that. The owners are very responsive, and provided all the information we requested about COVID-19 and traveling with a toddler. The upshot is that the lake is beautiful and full of fish (at least bluegill), the stream is clear and full of frogs, and the sky is full of stars. The cottages are basic, but if you came for the outdoors, that isn't a problem.

It’s been said that “There’s no place like home.” It’s true! There’s no place like Brookside; it feels so much like home away from home! From the calm, inviting lake to the cozy, intimate cabins, Brookside just ‘feels’ good. Whether you choose to explore the lake on a paddle board or kayak and/or experience the tranquility of the creek that flows into it, you are sure to make memories that will last. But the lake isn’t the only place to make memories at Brookside… Spend time in the game room, swim in the pool or soak in the hot tub. In the evening, tell stories around a campfire with a smore before heading into your private cabin, each of which is uniquely different with a story of its own to tell. Speaking of stories, create a Brookside story of your own. The moments spent here become memories you will have and hold for the rest of your life. Can’t wait to go back!

This place was wonderful and all I had hoped for!! Our cabin was cozy with new and clean appliances and bathroom. The pool and hot tub area was clean and had a nice deck, we enjoyed swimming. The game room had free air hockey, ping pong, pool table and fuse ball all in good working order. The little beach had free kayaks, paddle boards, and peddle boats to take out on the lake. Hammocks were strung in the trees for anyone to use. Each site had fire pit, chairs and picnic table. We had the best time and I was grateful not to be nickel and dimed for games, kayaks etc. Reasonable price with great amenities, in a little chuck of heaven with great sunsets. You are a fool to stay in a hotel when you can have all of this for half the price! Plus only 20 minute drive to Traverse City! When I come back, I will only stay here!

Unfortunately our weekend was not great due to not being able to use the water for the entire weekend. When we arrived the water smelled so bad we couldn’t keep it on. We had to brush our teeth with water bottles and could not take showers. We were in town for a soccer tournament and our daughter was not able to shower after her games because of this. The next day we were told to let our shower run for 15 minutes to flush out the smell. We did that, and immediately regretted it as the smell that was coming from our cottage was nauseating. You could not even walk by the cabin without smelling it. We had to leave our doors and windows open for a couple of hours to air it out. Kurt did come by that night and drained the hot water heater. At this time it was close to 10 at night and we were ready for bed. Now, we had to go to bed in a cabin filled with bugs. Sunday we went to more soccer and headed home. My fiancé has tried contacting Kurt via phone and email to try to make this situation right as we had no working water for the entire time of our stay. We paid a good amount of money for a 2 day stay and could not even shower. Kurt had not responded to any of the outreach attempts. I do appreciate him coming on Saturday night to drain the hot water heater, but this should not have happened in the first place. It would also have been nice for Kurt to take care of our stay as we could have stayed at a hotel and had working and non stinky water. No response back is not great customer service. Very unfortunate as our daughter looks forward to this soccer tournament every year and this year it was...

The house was the perfect get away for three families that wanted to get together to relax, enjoy the lake and be in community with each other. We loved the layout with separate areas for the adult children to hang out and sleep. The only downside was that the people who slept on the lower level had to use the bathroom on the second floor...an additional bathroom would be helpful with that many people...or at least a mirror in each sleeping area for people to get ready without using bathroom space. The sunsets are beautiful off the deck...and the ping pong space got a lot of use with a final tournament at the end of the week. Plenty of yard space for a corn hole set that one of our families brought...but the hammock needs to be replaced for sure...was not usable.

We grilled out several times so that was awesome to have a nice grill to use...and we also fully stocked the wood at the fire pit with wood that we ordered ahead of time. We were very pleased that we rented the pontoon for the week because we were able to enjoy a boat ride daily...enjoying swimming at the sand bar....or just enjoying a ride at dusk...just before sunset! The boat held 12 people so that was perfect for us. We all loved being able to hang out together...

We had a FABULOUS time at the High Lake Getaway for an extended family trip with 19 people from 5 states. The house is well stocked, clean, and comfortable. The large porch, living areas, and firepit offered many areas for our group to gather. The location was great because it felt so quiet and removed from the city but it was an easy 20 minute drive to downtown TC, 5 mins to a grocery store, 10 to the airport, and 12 to Costco. We loved spending time on the lake and loved that the smaller size of the lake meant that it was warmer water which made for very comfortable swimming everyday. The water trampoline was a hit with our group for all ages (2 to 72!). We'd definitely recommend renting SUPs (and going out for a sunrise paddle). For the very minor issues/questions we had, Kurt was extremely kind, easy to get a hold of, and resolved issues quickly. We would absolutely stay here again and will be looking into their other properties for our future stays with other sized...
