Small three unit 'bed and breakfast' north of Interlochen on Mud Lake. Boy, I was excited to stay here, and it wasn't a bad stay, but it is getting a tad bit worn. Stayed in the upstairs Pines Nature suite, was decorated in that theme. Enjoyed all the room we had; kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, media room and an attached deck you could access through sliders. Thought we wouldn't use the media room but it was our favorite place, with a double recliner and huge tv it was a nice place to relax. Had access to the lake, but we were too busy to use it. Not a 'bed and breakfast' anymore. Instead you have choice of local restaurant gift certificates, which worked well for us anyhow. Overall a solid pick for the area which can be rough to find affordable rentals. Now for the not so hot. The kitchen carpet needed cleaning and all the doors were narrow? Bathroom toilet was the old round one, but shower was nice. Gas heater clicked on and off all night, but when you're sleeping in a new place you hear everything anyway. Stairs and deck missing paint. Oh, and there are a series of motion detectors and alarms outside so owners can hear when you come and go and doors open and closed sort of thing, which is OK, but the...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoyed four nights in Angler's Nook, a suite located beneath Pines Nature Suite. We received a text message once our suite was cleaned and ready for us - 75 minutes early of normal check-in...this was helpful as we running a little ahead of schedule. Dave was onsite to greet us and provide us the first iteration of gift cards to one of two restaurants of our choice (we chose Rico's in nearby Grawn - great Friday fish fry!). We used the gas grill to grill steaks - the grill worked well. We used the stove top to make spaghetti another night - everything in the kitchen worked well. The queen bed was comfortable. The A/C unit kept the unit very comfortable throughout our stay. The shower had immediate hot water and plenty of water pressure. We used the hot tub one night - very relaxing. We didn't get the opportunity to use the canoe/kayak/row boat, but they were there to be enjoyed by any guest that so chose. The couple above us were quiet walkers, so we didn't have any issues with their footsteps later at night or early in the morning. The location makes for easy access to the sights in Empire, Suttons Bay, and Old Mission without having the havoc of traffic/people in Traverse City. An...
Read moreThe Lake 'N Pines Lodge has been a wonderful experience. The setting is gorgeous! Right on the lake with beautiful state forest all around. Dave and Melanie are extremely accommodating. They provide for any and all needs a guest might have. Daily 'pick your own' breakfast menus, which they will deliver right to your door, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a large movie collection to borrow from, and a small fleet of boats to take out on the lake. They even provide fishing poles and some basic tackle upon request, no charge! I caught my first bass while staying in the cozy 'Angler's Nook'! All in all the amenities, service, price, and location (only 20 mins from Traverse City, and 40 mins from Old Mission Peninsula where many great wineries are) make the Lake 'N Pines Lodge a wonderful place to stay. My wife and I loved our stay. We will definitely be coming back. Might even make it an...
