I gave 2 stars because the community is very aesthetically pleasing. However, I gave only 2 stars because of the way we were treated by the property manager. My family and I were perspective residents. We had high hopes of living here after hearing good things. Our credit reports came back good, good enough for the smaller percentage down even. Even though we had pretty decent credit, we still got a letter of denial with hardly any detail. I called the office to find out why. Angela told me I had to call the number on the letter. I did, and they told me the decision had nothing to do with them and that I had to call the property. I then called back to the office. Angela told me that it was something on my husbands report and that he would have to call to find out because it was on his public record. A little irritated, I called him and told him this. He called up there right away. He was told it was because he had an eviction on his public record. He's never been evicted from anywhere. We go through lengths to try to get this figured out, calling all reporting agencies. With print outs from the reporting agencies, I went up to the office. Angela then tells me she has a case number. I asked to see the information and she said she could only give me the case number and court info. Okay, so with that I head to the court house. They found a letter of dismissal from an eviction in the place we currently live in. (what happened here was one of two things: either in our current place we were late on rent and it wasn't paid by the 15th so they filed {doubtful}. Or we payed rent a little late with the fee and they put it into our mortgage by accident, which has happened on more than one occasion). By this point our current property manager is on bored with us and gave my husband our entire ledger from the years we lived here showing NO EVICTION. I took this information to Angela. Her response was that it did not matter. She said that because it was in his public record that that was it. So I called their corporate number. I talked to her boss. She defended Angela saying that she comes across the wrong way sounding rude sometimes when she talked to people. She said she would remind her of this and would look into our situation. Days later I had heard back so I called again. This time the story has changed. Now we were being denied because of my ESA (Emotional Support Animal) because her breed is on the restricted list. Mind you, they new of my dog from the beginning. I took their form for her to my doctor, had it filled out, and returned it. Then never heard of it again. I explained this to the woman (leaving out the fact that there are dogs in the community on whose breeds are on the list also). I told her I believed Angela was denying us because shortly before we applied, herself and the person we put down as our referral and first reference had got into a spat (I had just found this part out). The corporate woman told us that Angela couldn't have denied us because of this because they have and equal opportunity thing... at this point my patience is gone. I didn't get rude. I told her, maybe if she was there in person she would have a better understanding of what was going on. I'd warn others to be cautious when dealing...
Read moreCurrent Renter at Woodland Ridge in South Lyon. The community is quiet and well maintained unfortunately management is slow or unresponsive. We moved in October and our unit had a crack in the fiberglass shower. Management told us we could not use the shower till it was repaired and that they were contacting the company about warranty replacement. After repeated calls for two months they finally repaired it by caulking over the crack, a repair that could have been done day 1. It was not till we refused to pay rent that they made the repair. When we signed the lease in October we were advised the A/C unit would not be installed till early April. We were fine with that but it is now the end of May and we still have do not have our A/C Unit. We have contacted them every week for the past 2 months and each time we are told they are on order and should be in with in 2 weeks. After servicing another letter for a refusal to pay rent till the issue is resolved we have a date of May 29th 2 days before our rent payment would be due. Unfortunately the position of our unit makes our home more of a greenhouse, even when temps are in the 60's our unit is constantly at 80-90 degrees inside. We rented this unit for the amenities we were missing elsewhere and have regretted it ever since. It is nice to have our own space but the quality of the unit and management is terrible. We were seeking to have our screen door installed but after talking to the neighbors its become apparent we are better off without it. The screen door has been "on order" since October when we moved in. All of our neighbors have the same complaints we do, the area behind our unit is a muddy swamp from a drain pipe issue that occurred in November with no repair in sight. I'd highly discourage anyone from moving here and if you do make sure every issue is resolved prior to you moving in. I've been renting for the last 7 years, we've had an apartment flood twice and numerous other issues but have never been as dissatisfied with management as...
Read moreWe are truly disappointed in the Woodland Ridge. My husband and I saw a beautiful 4 bedroom home that we fell completely in love with. We paid the $40.00 application fee, completed the application, turned in all of the necessary paperwork, put down a $500.00 deposit and was lead to believe that we were pretty much in this home. We were told that the "community" would need to approve us to live there. We were told that they look for evictions, criminal record, bankruptcy, and so on. We have NONE of those things. I visited the community on 3 different occasions and was highly impressed with the looks of the homes. We were told to make sure to have the 10% down payment which we have and even if credit was an issue, they may ask us for a higher down payment which we were ok with that as well. They said as long as you have a credit score of 500 or more, you make enough, no criminal record, evictions, bankruptcies we would be to go. My husband makes about $23.00 per hour! We have never had a criminal record, we have the income, we have the down payment, my husbands credit score is above 500 but yet we get denied. Why? I would really hate to think that because of the color of our skin, we were denied the opportunity to reside here and if that is the case, it is beyond sad that we still have people today that for whatever reason choose to judge a person based upon the color of their skin. We are hard working people and we are well respected. I am waiting on the letter which they say will explain further as to why the community came up with this decision to NOT allow my husband and I the opportunity to purchase...
