I can't speak of the hotel because we tent-camped in the campground, but this place has exactly what you need if you're looking for a place well off the beaten path, yet still close to Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, and Moab. The campground is not very large with only enough space for several camps, but there is plenty of space in each campsite. The showers and bathrooms are very clean and the water is very hot (just what we needed after a cold night). The owners did tell us that it's still a work in progress, but I say 'so far, so good' and I can't wait to see what it looks like the next time we're going on a Utah vacation. As other visitors have mentioned, there is a railroad with trains that will run once or twice in the middle of the night although from the campground it didn't bother us much and we were so tired from the activities of the day that I immediately fell back to sleep before the entire train had even passed by. The other campers and residents were very friendly and gave us some local tips of places to visit nearby including the Sego Canyon petroglyphs which are only about a five minute drive north of the Desert Moon. If you stay here I highly recommend checking out the petroglyphs as it is very isolated and there are several panels of art that are each very interesting. After a day at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks it was nice to get away from the large crowds and explore such a unique place that not very many people have visited before. I highly recommend spending the night at this place whether in the hotel or the campground. You...
Read moreI can readily see how each of the contradictory reviews were accurate portrayals of the nature of the writer’s perceptions of the Desert Moon Hotel and RV Park. From 1 Star to 5 Star!||||Desert Moon and Thompson Springs have both seen MUCH better days. That is certainly true! But for us, the Desert Moon Hotel and RV Park worked and worked well.||||When I first saw the place, I was hesitant to pull in. First impression was that it was very old and quite run down, but my wife prevailed.||||She accurately pointed out that the RV sites at Desert Moon had power, fresh water and sewer hook-ups. She also noted that the alternative would be parking our Winnebago out in BLM land and staying in open land, the non-organized dispersed camping land.||||The RV site we had reserved was large and under the prevailing large shade trees.||||On the other hand, while there were a few sites with “normal customers,” there were several older RVs parked about that were in disrepair yet looked to be occupied.||||On the first morning we decided to try the “available breakfast.” My wife walked over to the hotel and brought two orders of French Toast ($9.00 each) to the RV. The other days, we ate what we prepared in the Winnebago having decided the French Toast and other choices were not as good as we would want.||||Given what we have presented, if someone is game to stay at the Desert Moon, we certainly support that decision. If the opposite is the case, that too would be...
Read moregoing out to Moab to have some adventures fun and was looking for a less expensive alternative to the extremely high pricing in Moab for my RV. The Desert Moon is the spot no need to look any further cause you found it. Very fare prices in a spot that has its own old western charm in the little ole town of Thompson Springs. Desert Moon Hotel & RV Park is a true gem with very friendly staff willing to make our stay comfortable and worth while. There was an amazing drive up Sego Canyon that has left me dazzled with Indigenous American hieroglyphs old western cemetery and ruins of a old mining town with an amazing high alpine forest that gives one of the most amazing views in Utah when you reach the top of Sego Canyon. So if your looking to have an amazing time exploring what eastern Utah has to offer I suggest that Desert Moon be your home base to hunker down and take a load off. So I hope you enjoy the Desert Moon like I did and there is absolutely no doubt this will be spot for future trips where I get my rest for new adventures. Thanks Desert Moon for the amazing hospitality and...
