I appreciate that this place exists as a place to go in the DC area to find some nature. However, it's very rundown. The bathrooms are the most disgusting that I have ever had to use. They appear to have never been cleaned, and they're crumbling. Both of the stalls in the nearest bathroom to my site (80, B) are broken and can't be closed. Tiles are missing from the walls, and there's a huge infestation of every local bug and spider inside the bathrooms. The showers are also very bad, there's only one for each sex in this loop, both of which are nasty and have missing tiles etc. The shower has only a see-through curtain separating you from everyone else in the shower room, and that's even torn just about in half. Not very comfortable. The site is not too bad, though it looks again like nobody has cared for it in forever. The table was covered in stuff, the ground is so caked in leaves, sticks, and rocks that I'd guess it hasn't been raked since years ago. It's very hard to set up a tent and fire. The fire pit is tiny, not enclosed, and includes just a very low to the group cooking grate. You can't have any sort of bonfire or anything that resembles one. It's rusted so bad that it's crumbling and has many holes and flakes. Lastly you can hear the highways and sirens all day, but that's not the park's fault. The price is lower for a site than the parks back home, but not so low that it should look like this. If you're going to loop B for camping, do so at your own risk. It's a beautiful area with wildlife, and the rangers and workers are very nice, but it just...
Read moreWorst camping experience of my life. The tent sites are tiny - you can barely fit one small tent on our site, even though they are marketed as being able to accommodate three tents per site. The fire-pits are so deep that you can't cook any food with the grill unless you create a RAGING inferno.
Each site is basically on top of the next, and when the place got crowded with families and children, there was no privacy or quiet. You can hear everyone around you because they are basically five feet away at all times.
The camp is INFESTED with ticks and tent caterpillars. The caterpillars cover everything - from the picnic tables to the trees, all over the bushes and the ground. The ticks are even worse. Despite my bug spray I was bitten and covered with ticks daily.
The bathrooms are DISGUSTING and the men's room had only one handicap accessible toilet that has been out of order for what looks like years. The bathrooms are infested with orb weaver and wolf spiders. The water smells bad, like a mixture of chlorine and rust.
The park rangers, who apparently have no time clean or repair the bathrooms, have plenty of time to issue "citations" for things as stupid as "parking one wheel of the car into the grass" (the parking spots ARE TOO SMALL) or "hanging lights from the trees" (we had solar string lights that weigh less than on ounce!). Good to know that they spend their time worrying about things like that instead of making the place handicap...
Read moreThis campground was a mess, we tried to be optimistic about the whole thing, on our first day we took the trail to the metro that is a mile through the woods that leads to a highway that is at least a mile and a half uphill to the metro. When we returned a rodent ripped into our tent, and to add to it somebody stole my shoes out of the tent. We fixed the tent, went to DC and got back the one night and luckily my girlfriend had her flashlight on when going into the tent because there was a huge Black Widdow spider on the zipper and she could have been seriously injured or worse if we didn’t think to look for these things. Mind you if there is one black widow, there are certainly more. The bathrooms were an atrocious, disgusting place, only one shower in every bathhouse and they are invested with the biggest wolf spiders I have ever seen in my life. Do not camp here, it feels really unsafe that people that are not campers can just walk into the campsites at night, we heard people walking with flashlights through the woods behind our site at night(not campers) , it’s really unsettling to know that anyone from the street could be in there at anytime while you are sleeping. Also homeless people set up camp on the trail to the non existent metro station at the end...
