Prior to our weekend stay in July 2023, we had camped here several times last fall. We won't be camping there this fall though. While we realize this is a Christian camp, we were not aware of the "no two-piece swimsuit" rule. With July 28th being one of the hottest days on record in Indiana of course the four pre-teen girls that were in our party wanted to swim. After being informed of the rule by staff, the girls headed back to our campsite. This rule is not to found on the website or the info sheet they provide at check-in. It is only found in very small print on a sign of "pool rules" within the pool area. I didn't want to bring down the spirit of the girls, so we took some old t shirts and made "cover-ups." One of the girls, with a sensory based disability was in tears as she was unable to cope with the way the shirt felt on her skin. I suggested she take the shirt off once in the pool (where her stomach and back were out of view of the general public and under water). Luckily, this seemed to be enough to appease the rule enforcer. Great! Four happy girls again! Now, here comes the part where I will never give this "Christian" camp another dime...later in the evening, the girls decided they wanted to go to the camp store. They wore their shorts and, you guessed it, swim tops to the store. Very quickly they were back at the campsite. Now another girl from the group was in tears. This child has a history of self-injurious behaviors due to adverse childhood experiences. While she no longer cuts her arms, the scars will forever remain. One of the so called Christian workers, decided to tersely tell the girls, "You all need to put shirts on and cover up. Especially you (as she pointed her finger at the scars). WOW! For a business who's mission statement is, "Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” her statement was the opposite and quite thankless. I suggest this business try to be more Christlike, whom in my mind I would like to think would have turned a blind eye to a CHILD's scars and instead offered some encouragement or at least have enough tact to just tell the girls to put their shirts on without calling attention to someone's scars. Also, how creepy is it that these girls have to cover their backs and stomachs but young boys, teen boys, young men, middle aged men, and old men alike can choose to walk around with out a shirt? If you're all about hypocrisy, then this place is for YOU! If you're more about love, compassion, tolerance, and acceptance, head west down 70 to Jellystone or the KOA. We've stayed at both, and will gladly pay the extra money to go back as in the many years of camping at both of those places, we've never felt excluded, judged, or thankless and always...
Read moreWe had our first opportunity to go camping with our class b motor home (a converted van) and our two grandsons. We made reservations at a Christian campground. After checking in, we were given a map with street names but there were no street signs or any identifiers for the lots. As we drove past the playground swerving around bicycles in the road a little girl ran out in front of our RV and defied us to go on. As my husband opened the door she leaned down and picked up a rock before running away. As we began to drive off a rock hit our RV and my husband got out and ask the children who threw the rock and they pointed to a young boy and my husband noted his appearance to make a complaint. When we found our camp site our neighbor had his tow vehicle parked in our site and when asked to move it he was surly and took his time before finally moving his vehicle. We could find no picnic table and when we made the complaint about the children we asked about a table; they said they would bring one right over but did not show up until after we had eaten in the RV. We later found out the campground had requisitioned all the picnic tables from unoccupied sites for a special event but had not returned them. By then we found out that the neighbors on the other side were the parents of the children that had started our initiation into this camp ground. After having been in our lot for an hour, we no longer felt safe to stay and packed up to leave. We stopped to ask for a refund but the “Christian” owners only argued with us about none of the happenings were their fault. We disagree. The whole campground lacked supervision, rules and policies as was shown in no street or lot markings, the way vehicles were haphazardly parked throughout the various sites, and the way children were allowed to run wild without supervision with bikes and toys also in the roadway! This is the first time I have ever been denied a refund when circumstances were such that I felt my family’s welfare...
Read more7/1-4: Well this was a bit of a muck. We called initially on Sunday to see if there were any openings for the upcoming weekend. Sadly the nice lady on the phone told us that the campground was booked and there was a waiting list. We understood (as it was short noice) and then inquired about a Aug. weekend. She said they had availability but would need to confirm that the next day (as we called 10 minutes until their closing time). We usually camp in a group and so when we discussed the need on the Monday, we were told they would need to look at the current reservations and would call us back shortly. The situation did not get better as it was the end of the day Monday and no one had called back. We made another effort to call on Tuesday to inquire about the Aug., weekend. This time the gentleman also told us that he believed so but would need to see what sites would be available, as our group had specific needs because of our coaches. Yet again, no return call. I encouraged my husband to make a final attempt to call the campground on Wed. He received the voicemail this time and left a message, stating who we were and what we were calling about. This time we did receive a call back from a gentleman. He was very rude and vulgar on the message he left for us. After considering the experience we were having with just trying to make a reservation, we decided to take our business elsewhere. If you don't want to rent your sites to "cold" customers - customers that might be new to your business, then don't post a website, don't post a FB page, don't advertise. For the "owner" to treat a potential customer in this manner is unacceptable. If your business is that good, great, I'm happy for you, but I will be sure to share my experiences with my social circle as we are all avid campers and there are plenty of other places to camp. So to anyone booking or camping at this location - you do at your own risk depending on when the bi-polar personality that...
