I heard about Westwood in a FB camping group. Since I was interested in finding a closer campground for spur of the moment wknd trips, I drove up and checked them out. As a park, it is beautiful. It is heavily wooded, has a pretty fishing lake, several picnic areas, and some trails. All were very well kept and clean. The staff at the gatehouse were very nice and informative. However, the campground area was a disappointment for ME. It appeared to be well kept with a maintained loop drive and a playground. I didn't go in the bathrooms, but I am sure they were just as clean and well kept as everything else. However, the limited number of sites (38, I think) are very small, with short parking areas, and very little, if any privacy. Most of the sites are at 90° angles and 4 of them require backing down a road before you can back into your site. I didn't have my camper with me, but it LOOKED like extra leveling blocks MIGHT be needed for a few sites. Of course, that can happen anywhere and we should always be prepared anyway. Probably none of what I mentioned would bother campers who regularly camp in state parks, I usually camp in national forests. Totally different vibe. Just a preference thing. I was very excited when first entering Westwood, but without being able to reserve the one really nice site (Westwood is fcfs only), I doubt I'll take the chance. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice little campground, just not for me. My review is more of a heads up for those who prefer to camp more like I do. I wish I had taken photos, but I didn't think of it at the time. EDITED TO ADD: The way the star ratings are figured by Google's system are inaccurate in this case. There are no 'rooms' to rate, therefore, the stars are lower than I would like them to be. There is nothing particularly wrong or broken, dirty, etc., about this campground. Just preference differences and a messed up Google star...
Read moreFishing sucks! They need to invest in stocking the lake or they will lose day use people, as well as campers who come for fishing. We love to camp here if other places are booked, not as private sites but still a get away. We also wished they did allow at least electric golf carts for those who come to fish with out boats. It’s a long haul to fish from the camping area and not great to drive cars/trucks back and forth with kids all over. Golf carts would be nice for the kids can be seen easier and less car traffic. This could also help add more income for the park if they wanted to charge for golf cart fees. Most places its a $25-$50 yearly pass or $5 a day(total $10-$15 a weekend). Trails need more signage to fond it easier. Also I wish they would check the fire rings. This Labor Day weekend we had socks and trash in our fire ring when we arrived. Wish there was a smaller play ground equipments for toddlers for safer playing. Like I said this is our place for last minute if all other places are booked. It wpd be a regular if it met more of...
Read moreI don't like the fact that you aren't aloud to have more than 6 people at your site after 10 o'clock. Why does it matter how many people are staying? I thought it was very rude how the man in the white truck came up to my familys camp and blatantly told us we we weren't aloud to have 3 cars at one site. Okay why is it any of your business how many cars we have? 4 elderly people are staying at the site with a 4 year old. And the man was so rude. I told him we were just visiting and he wanted to cop an attitude. He was not a nice person and he royally p*ssed me off. If this is how your staff are going to act none of my family or myself will be coming back to your camping ground. We were helping our family Set up their tents and put away everything they needed help with before we left and he still was a snarky person after I explained that to him. All the trails were over grown and had a lot of poison ivy. There was trash in the lake, and you aren't aloud to swim. I'd go to Mount...
