Have you ever seen a boulder field that stretched as far as your eyes could see?? This incredible field is at the Blue Rocks Family Campground in Lenhartsville, PA. It’s truly a wonder of nature!! #campground #bluerocks #bluerocksfamilycampground #pennsylvania #camping

This is a mixed review and I normally do not leave these because we genuinely are happy folks and easy to get along with. We were extremely thankful to find space at the first campground off the interestate after a harrowing drive from Boston to PA via Newark and NYC (which we attempted to avoid but G-Maps kept taking us the quickest way despite our efforts to go north). We arrived a bit dazed after driving for 6 hours through awful traffic and I'm well-versed driving Indy 500 style but those NJ drivers are just plain nuts! .... So it was a delight the campstore was still open (8 pm) and the hostess who took our information was very nice and talkative. I needed to eat upon arrival and was feeling woozy so I did not catch the upcharged fee. Not sure why we were charged so much for a primative tent site - I've never paid that much for any tent sight, even at the bells-and-whistle-KOA's. 1. It was not yet the holiday weekend & the campground was almost empty (no other tents were noted). We were charged $14 more than the website advertised. 2. We were never given a map so we took a few wrong turns up the steep roads trying to find our site. We had no idea where the outhouse was. 3. The site was in the middle of nowhere and when we arrived, it was too dark to explore and I still needed to eat. But the huge patch of poison ivy next to the picnic table was a MAJOR problem. It was dusk and we had to set up camp quickly before dark - it was too late to go back. So we walked down the mountain to use the showerhouse facilities and got lost going back up after dark. 4. Could not find the trash recepticles (no map) so a gentleman working in the rec room kindly accepted our bag of trash. 5. The next day we inquired at the store how to access the Appalachian Trail and was told we could not park at the trailhead but had to park at the campsite entrance or our campsite. It's their property so we followed their rules but it was a very long walk up the mountain again and it was hours before the holiday campers were going to check-in. 6. The trailhead was next to a boulder field (never seen one before) and an explanation was posted on a nearby tree (very helpful).

I’m sure I will regret this rating. The campground is excellent but if everyone who reads this goes camping, my favorite campground will be busy. Special events every weekend through the summer, hiking trails galore and several even go up to trails that hook up to the Appalachian trail system. They have a very nice in ground pool, several nice playgrounds, ice cream, good food, good bathrooms ( not necessarily in that order), good showers that are air conditioned. They sell propane, camping food, gifts, etc, etc. This is a campground that leaves you feeling like you visited the woods. No open field with sardine packed campers here, your in the trees. It’s beautiful. There must be a couple of miles of roads within the campground also. The owners and employees are very friendly and helpful. They even host an RC rock crawler weekend. Not nice Bluerocks!!! Now I need to buy a RC truck. This place can keep you and the kids busy all week. And no I don’t work here, but I like it so much I got a seasonal site.

We spent a weekend here in a truck camper using an electric hook-up site.

It's a lovely wooded location interspersed by babbling brooks and hills. Really neat huge field of giant glacial boulders. Trails leave from the camp ground and head up the side of the mountain, connecting you to two scenic look-outs and part of the Appalachian Trail. Really nice for intermediate-level hikers. Very pretty!

Camp store had many items we needed. Sites were pretty clean, though I wish they had pet owners clean up better after their dogs. Bath house had no obvious really dirty areas, but it looks like it had not been updated in quite some time. For example, stall doors in the ladies room sagged and didn't all lock. Nice layout on a sloping piece of land. My only annoyance was the constant stream of golf carts that zoomed up and down the hill. I swear it was the same 2 or 3 golf carts doing laps over and over all evening. But overall noise level was quiet and there was no noise at all during quiet hours. I slept well.

Pluses: ample hot water in the shower during my visit seemed like a friendly, safe place camp sites have a little space between them so you're not right up on top of your neighbor camp store had variety of items location great for hikers or people into outdoor photography pretty close to a major interstate

Minuses: $$$ Warning: they will charge you for every tent you put up. They charge by the "unit" not by the site. So if the fee is let's say $40 and you have an RV and two tents that fit nicely on one site, that's $120 per night!? WHY?! I found it downright impossible to get availability or to reserve a site before going. they never pick up the phone. I called over and over throughout the day and early evening on a Friday when I knew the grounds were open. All I got was a recording which didn't even have office hours. I asked at the desk when I checked in, and they acted like this is normal. no office hours posted on web site or given on phone recording. I had no idea if they allowed after hours check ins. No way to check vacancy/availability on their web site. no cooked food on site or very close by. As far as I can tell, nobody delivers there either. Definitely bring your groceries or plan to drive back to the Interstate to...

My husband and I have been taking our family here for 3 years now and we LOVE the memories we've been making with our children! We are turning it into an annual tradition. The most recent time we stayed was in June 2023. Cottage 175 we stay in has privacy and a gorgeous view of the mountains and a large open field with beautiful sunsets, while sitting by the fire pit. It's the perfect sized unit for our family. It has all the basic necessities for an extended weekend of camping. With young kids, we appreciate having the beds, kitchen, shower, etc, rather than the more primitive cabins. We love how close the campground activities are with just a short easy walk to the boulder field, trails for simple hiking, playground, pool, fishing, etc. In June, we stayed 4 nights, and on the last night, the electricity went out on only our unit. Fortunately it was our last night so it didn't affect us too much, just a bit warm sleeping without the air conditioning and we couldn't make coffee in the morning, and had to pack up to leave a little sooner than anticipated to get our food on ice since the fridge wasn't powered. I called the office number in the morning and Jed Wood (one of the owners) answered. From our experience and all the google reviews, Jed seems like a really great guy who cares about making every guest's stay as pleasant as possible. He immediately apologized for the inconvenience and said he would send someone out asap to take a look at the problem. Only a little time went by and he personally drove over to take a look. It turned out to be a much more involved issue than expected, such as days worth of work to rewire, etc. We were fortunate it happened at the end of our stay so it didn't affect us too much but he immediately offered some compensation towards a future trip, which impressed us. We will certainly be back! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the kitchen in the cottage could use some updating, though everything in it is in working condition and has what we need. The windows/screens on the porch could use some fixing and the chairs on the porch are all ripping. We bring our own folding chairs since the ones there don't appear to be stable. But overall, we are satisfied each time we visit. Thanks for a great experience...

2024 UPDATE - sad to say, after the experience I just had, I'll NEVER be back. The campground is beautiful, and we have been coming here for many years. I have recommended this place to more people than I can count. But apparently late last night, they put a fire ban into effect. According to their Facebook page, that was 12 hours ago. Long after we were asleep. This morning, around 10:45 or 11, we had a guy come out to fix our toilet. My husband was in the process of starting a fire and the gentleman said, "They may come around and tell you to put that out." My husband replied that we had checked when we checked in and were told that it was allowed, and that we would put it out no problem if anything changes. The guy fixed our toilet and left. We were sitting outside by the fire, maybe 40 minutes later, a woman comes in to our site aggressively, yelling at us saying that we were told to put out our fire and were refusing to comply. We told her that was not true. She then tells us that a member of her staff, Tom, had already been out to tell us to put it out. He had not, that was a lie, and we told her that absolutely didn't happen. My husband even asked if that was the guy who had fixed our toilet and relayed the conversation to her. She said no, that's a different guy. Then she says, Well I came around at 11 last night and told you. We said again, absolutely that did not happen, we were asleep by 9. After spending $450 to stay in this cabin for a weekend, I'd rather not be attacked by staff and accused of lying and being some kind of weirdo freak who would refuse to comply with a fire ban in a campground. Who would even do something like that and why? All she or anybody had to do at any point is let us know that a ban was put into affect and that we had to put our fire out. We have been coming here twice a year for over ten years and were even considering a seasonal lease. Ill never come back again. I refuse to spend my money in places that don't understand how customer service works, no matter how nice the campground is, there are others. Old review: Best rustic sites around, good amenities, amazing trails. Sites are spacious and...
