UPDATE: After posting my review the staff here were kind enough to go above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. So, here are the great things about this place: My number one thing is family friendly. This is a culdisac, which means kids can run up from the pool to the house, you can see them pretty much everywhere. Want to sit on the deck while they play at the park? Okay. The pool is shaded if you don’t like the lake, but the lake is shaded too and jumping off the dock was a lot of fun.
The dock helpers were very educational and helpful. They were out there every time we had to dock the boat or undock to not only help (trust me, it was needed) but also to answer any questions we had about the lake.
This place is very beautiful and for the price, is definitely going to be the place for the money. I am leaving the issues I had on the first night below, hopefully they rectified them. I spoke to who I believe to be the head of the maid/maintenance crew as she came in to mop our home. She explained that this is not their standard and she was very upset by the way this house was clean prior to our arrival. I am hoping the emergency phone situation has been rectified for future use, as it is imperative that if you have an emergency maintenance number, it gets monitored correctly. But all in all we had a great vacation and I thank Candlewyck resort for going above and beyond to fix the issues for our stay.
The house is beautiful and so is the lake. However, don’t expect emergency service after hours. Our fridge went out at 730 at night, no answer on the emergency line, and it has a voicemail box that is not set up yet. I called 7 times and even tried texting to see if there would be a response, none. I never received a call back, even after the office was open the next day and no one came to check on the fridge, I had to go chase them down.
Also, do not expect a clean house. It definitely looks clean, but no deep cleaning was actually done. The floors are not mopped and the rugs are not vacuumed. Whoever was here before us had a hairy dog, and we have an 8 month old baby. My sister had to ask to borrow a vacuum so the baby could crawl around the ground. I cleaned up a small water spill and the towel was black when I was done, along with all our socks and feet. I don’t expect it to be the Hilton by any means, but I expect it to be decently clean, especially being all...
Read moreWe got Cypress Cottage for 2 nights. We loved it and really hope to go back soon. The stay was fantastic, however we did have a couple complaints. First, the bathtub was a huge really nice jacuzzi type tub that took up almost the entire upstairs portion of the cottage, the size, performance, and quality of the tub was awesome. However when it was put in there was no consideration for making it easily accessible. I am 6' tall, long legged, fairly agile and in decent shape. And I found the tub really difficult to get in and out of. If you were handicapped or just had issues climbing up and down things, this tub would be impossible to get into. Trash was an issue.. you have 2 tiny waste cans... thats it. We took advantage of the grill both nights and cooked full meals on it. This left us with a lot of waste that needed to be thrown away. We ended up having to use multiple grocery store plastic bags to compensate.. a regular size trash bin outside somewhere would have really helped. Soap was fairly poor quality for hotel type soap. Wifi was useless in that cottage.. I have a feeling that particular cottage is the furthest away from the router. You do get a signal, strongest was 3 bars in the bathroom.. but if you go into the living room it was 1 or no bars. This didnt bother us though as we were enjoying the lake and each other rather than the internet. Just an observation we made. Other than these few minor issues.. the bathtub accessibility being the worst, we really loved it. We had cold champagne on ice waiting with a bag of good chocolates waiting when we arrived. The cottage is super nice, the lake is right out the back door. Cypress was positioned to where it was kind of hidden away and a little more private than the rest. All in the all the vibe was very romantic. This is an amazing, romantic, and sexy little getaway for a young couple. We highly recommend.. (of course only, if you are agile enough to get in and out of a difficult tub that is. However I'm sure Candlewyck has handicap options available as well.. its just this tub was difficult for us and we are a young couple in our 20's with no...
Read moreThe website offers very minimal information, which I have seen others mention as well. Upon arriving and checking in, we did notice that area around the resort was absolutely beautiful. Upon arriving at our room/suite, we were unable to enter it due to being given an incorrect door code, so we had to call and get the proper one. The photos of the room we booked did not match the room we stayed in at all. The room was decent, but not really worth the price. The linens had holes and rips throughout them, and a few of the towels had what appeared to be blood or makeup stains on them. There was a note we found stating that the hot tub had been sanitized and sealed for our protection prior to our arrival, and to use the scissors/snippers provided to cut the seal for the hot tub if we chose to use it. Well, we of course did want to use the hot tub during our stay, so later that evening we went to the hot tub. When we walked over to the hot tub, we immediately noticed it was not sealed at all. The lid came right off. There was no seal of any kind holding the lid down. After removing the lid, we immediately noticed a foul smell coming from the hot tub. The water seemed stagnant, and there were leaves and dirt sitting in the bottom of the hot tub. Aside from the room and the hot tub, it was also extremely difficult to communicate with staff or get any help if you needed it. Their office is closed Monday and Tuesday, so you'll probably have difficulty getting any help on those days as well. The best part of the stay was truthfully just the view of the lake and nature around us, and the wildlife. Aside from those things, we would not recommend booking a stay, nor do we intend...
