Stayed in the basic cabins (not the deluxe). Writing this review because the website wasn't very clear about what was available at the campsite. For the overall site, lots and lost of animals. Tons of mini donkeys and goats that roam freely. Mini horses, cows and pigs in gated areas. We really enjoyed this and found that unless you were eating outside and dropping food, they kept to themselves. Very nice grassy areas to sit. Small playground (swings and sandpit) with covered deck to sit. The "kamping kitchen" consisted of a stove top and sink under a covered area outside. You had to provide all utensils, cooking materials and obviously food. There was a gameroom and laundry room but we didn't enter or use these. Bathrooms and showers are cleaned once a day. They weren't the cleanest, but I've also seen worse. I'd say they were fairly middle but would definately wear shoes in the shower and not expect great cleanliness. Cabins are a- frames and very minimal. Two twin size mattresses on wooden frames that can be moved, small table attached to the wall that can't be moved, small plug in space heater and box fan. There is one electrical outlet and lightswitches for lights. Some hooks and a broom. Mattresses are not comfortable, and I would recommend bringing a sleeping pad if you have one. You need sheets or sleeping bags. It did get very muddy in our area. KOA is a nice distance from town/outside activities. It is close to an airport, but we were usually gone before anything happened with noise. Good for the price. Only interacted with staff 2 times but they were friendly...
Read moreEverything about the Gunnison KOA is amazing. The campsite is tucked back away from the city, though right next to a small airport that doesn't get used much. We did watch two planes take off during the afternoon which was pretty loud, but also very cool to see, so we didn't mind. This KOA had everything! A few games near the pond, an incredible little gift shop with clothing and handmade items, along with food and drink items as well! They had free KOA cups available, which was convenient considering we forgot to bring glasses for our anniversary champagne. The owners of the campsite are constantly working and it really shows, the campsite is well kept and clean at all times. They also have a small menagerie of animals that you can visit and pet, which is fun. Who doesn't love waking up in the middle of the night to a donkey hee-hawing his little heart out, haha. I would highly recommend trying to book a tent site with an a-frame. We brought our husky with us and the a-frame is likely the only thing that kept her comfortable due to the very, very hot sun. We set up our tent behind the a-frame, next to a little babbling brook that eased us to sleep both nights. Don't forget to spend some time outside at night, we had a full view of the Milky Way from our site! So beautiful! We can't wait...
Read moreI completely understand your feeIing of her being rude. That's because that's all she knows. She was so happy to take my money over the phone and sounded angry that she couldn't get more money for my serve dog. She's greedy and rude. She never disclosed the cancellation policy over the phone she just wanted the money. I will find every avenue to review this woman and I will only be truthful. Have you noticed that she responds to any of these reviews. All other companies do. She could careless about people. Below is my issue and I stand by it.
I made a reservation by phone with the owner for a 1 night at this specific KOA in Gunnison. There was never a mention of the cancellation rules by this owner when I spoke with her originally. She was very happy to take my moneythough. I had to cancel this reservation to to unforseen issues with my travel The extremely rude owner is refusing to give any of my deposit back Her policies are unheard of at any other KOA. I have checked with the main KOA people I reported her them them as well. Campers beware, your money will be stolen and your vacation will be ruined due to the rudeness of the owner only wanting to take money from...
