Let me preface this review with this: I really, REALLY wanted to like this place.
Lobby: The lobby was quite lovely. Really unexpected.
Checkin: Easy enough. Front desk staff was very helpful. Key cards were placed in a slightly dirty piece of cutoff envelope. I didn't understand this. If you don't have a sleeve just hand the keys over.
Room: The room was in a rather rough state of disrepair. The carpet was coming up in places. The doors to the entertainment center weren't affixed to the actual entertainment center (you could see the hinges were not screwed in at all) and almost fell off when I tried to close them. The bathroom curtain was yellowing/dingy. The bathmat was visibly soiled and worn. The towels and bathmat were frayed do the point of having threadbare tassels on each ends. The throw pillows on the bed were caked with something unpleasant and otherwise visibly dirty. There were faux bearskin accent blankets on the beds that, given the state of the pillows and bathroom, we promptly threw into a corner and tried not to think about when the last time they were cleaned was. No one had closed the back window (behind a curtain) and a rainstorm ripped through the area just before we checked in leaving quite a bit of moisture in that area of the room.
Pool/Hottub: The pool building has a greenhouse style roof. The roof panels had seemed to be filled with dirt and/or mold. To the point where the crest of the ceiling was opaque. We did not linger here as a result.
Breakfast: Breakfast was mediocre, but wasn't bad. Waffle makers always get bonus points from me. But the waffle batter was pre portioned into little dixie cups that were open to whatever was in the air and whatever buzzing insects might be lingering about.
Checkout: Checkout was simple, but dissatisfying. I was helped, but nobody asked how my stay was and/or if the room was alright. I would have provided feedback then, but was not offered the chance.
Overall: Pretty disappointed. For the price I was expecting much more. The basics weren't there: cleanliness, maintenance being the chiefest of concerns. I'm not sure how the reviews are as stirling as they are. Perhaps I got a bad room, your...

The king bed units have virtually no room in them except for the bed. You have to side step to get around and its just too small a room for a king. The air conditioner was on all night and noisy, didn't seem like it worked at all. We had to slam the door to get it to close, it was not functioning properly and the breakfast is nothing like the positive reviews portray, very minimal. However, the biggest problem and the one potential customers need to be careful of is the Bait and Switch that happened to me. I booked 2 nights at a pretty good rate for the summer and thought I was set. I asked for an email confirmation and was emailed one and made a huge mistake. I trusted they got the 2 nights down, trusted them and did not check the details. I should have scrutinized the confirmation. I made a big mistake in trusting them. When I arrived late the first night, the girl at the front desk confirmed I had a reservation for that night only. When I pushed back and said no that I had 2 nights, she politely disagreed and told me that is all I booked. But, I was very lucky because they had one room left for both nights, exactly the room I booked, but that the second night, the charge was $50 more than the first night. Of course, I could check out the next day and see if the room was available for a cheaper charge the next afternoon, but the room could be rented by someone else by then. I was very upset, it was obvious that the girl had been through this before and so I capitulated and took both nights for the extra charge.
The bottom line, DO NOT TRUST THEIR RESERVATION AND CONFIRMATION SYSTEM. BE SURE AND CHECK AND RECHECK YOUR CONFIRMATION. OTHERWISE YOU ARE SUBJECT TO THIS...
Read moreThe Inn at Tomichi Village would be a regular budget hotel, except it does everything right, and much better than other hotels in the price range. I've now stayed here twice, and would come back in a heartbeat. From the service to amenities and decor, this may be the best-value hotel I've ever stayed at.
First, a huge shout out to my main girl Sara at the front desk, who checked us in late at night with a cheery smile and a slight Eastern European accent, and was happy to accommodate us using the really nice hotel pool and hot tub. She was friendly and really enthusiastic about the hotel, despite how late it was. Give her a raise!
Second, the room is excellent - way, way better than a typical Comfort Inn/Holiday inn. The furniture is made with what looks like real hardwood branches out of an antique shop, not your typical furniture factory. The desk is sturdy and made of the same hardwood. There's a freakin' moose statue lamp (see photo), a little reading nook/closet, a REALLY comfortable bed, and the place is spotless clean.
Third, the continental breakfast - you know, the usual muffins and eggs - is actually really good! The little semi-circle omelettes they serve are actually delicious, like a diner omelette, and don't taste like cardboard! The yogurts and coffee and danishes are also nice, and the dining room is small and cozy.
Finally, the "grounds" - I know, I also smirked... at first - are actually really nice. There are Christmas lights and a fire pit, so it's pretty cozy!
The price can't be beat. I've paid much, much more for typical inns that offer your standard mediocre fare. The Inn at Tomichi Village is a breath of fresh air - a hotel that gets almost everything right. Please, do yourself a favor and stay here.
PS: Can't say anything about the on-site restaurant, but we had a really nice meal at the nearby Ol'...
