My husband and I stayed at Eagle's Nest Lodge in September 2025. It was an amazing trip with tons of wildlife (we saw sea lions, sea otters, humpback whales, porpoises, bald eagles and porcupine). I am not a huge fisherman, but my husband loves fishing so I wanted to come with him. This trip changed my whole view on fishing and I am officially in love with fishing in Alaska. Catching huge halibut is such a thrill that can’t be matched. While you’re sitting in the quiet ocean waiting for a bite we could look out and see so much wildlife! Watching huge humpback whales swim around not too far off our boat was magical. Little porpoises also came and swap around our boat for quite a while which was soooo fun. We had a couple sea lions follow our boat away from the dock one day and they swam right next to us for quite a while. It was amazing! I normally get sea sick when we have gone deep sea fishing in other locations but I didn’t get sea sick here. The guides mentioned that people typically do better with sea sickness fishing here because although you are in the ocean you have land masses around you so you can always feel more balanced which helps with the nausea. I could tell a huge difference for sure. The staff at the lodge were so helpful and accommodating and kind. The entire property is amazing. Having a large dining room for everyone with such a beautiful view of the meadow out the huge windows was a great way to start every morning. The individual rooms and the large grassy area and rec room to hang out in were awesome. We had the privacy of our rooms when we wanted but a fun hang out area when we wanted that as well. The new owners are going to renovate the rooms this winter which will be so nice for future guests. The property as a whole is amazing and having the bedrooms updated will be wonderful. I can’t recommend Eagle’s Nest Lodge enough. It was overall one of my all time favorite trips we have ever been on – and I was not expecting that since I am not a huge outdoorsman/fisherman. We will definitely be...
Read moreI have been an avid outdoorsman my entire life. Hunting and fishing are in my blood. Because of my passion for all things outdoors, I have had the fortune of traveling to fishing destinations all over the world. Eagle's Nest Lodge in Gustavus is one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The accommodations are very nice, with several different types of rooms available. Though I was traveling alone this trip, I immediately noticed how family-friendly this lodge also is. There's a game room with 2 televisions, a pool table and ping pong. Glacier Bay National Park is a 6 minute drive, and there are several "family-sized" rooms for you to stay in as well. This trip, I was in a "double" (2 beds) that was very nice, clean, had more than enough room and its own shower and bath. Meals were excellent, with a wide variety of meals served throughout the week, including homemade lasagna, halibut, salmon, enchiladas, fresh baked bread and homemade desserts. Even with all the activity, you can easily put on a few pounds if you're not careful! The camp staff was AMAZING- catering to any and every need my part and I had. Finally, I can't rave enough about the real reason I was there- the FISHING. We caught tons of fish every day- salmon, rockfish, and MOSTER HALIBUT. We actually caught 2 halibut over 100 lbs. and one that was over 220 lbs. The captains are very good, know where the fish are, and knock themselves out to make sure that you have a good time. Finally, I was happy to know that all of the fish we caught were not only cleaned, but vacuum sealed and frozen for the trip home. At the end of the week, I picked up my boxes and took them to the boat to Juneau. We had a GREAT TIME, and I could not recommend this place...
Read moreFanatic trip in August. The staff was extremely nice. Thanks to Taria, Dakota and Dustin for everything you did. Our boat Captain really knew where to find fish. Plenty of Silver Salmon and Pacific Halibut. After a retirement the lodge is under new ownership. No worries, the new owner owns several lodging properties in Gustavus as well as the majority of the fishing fleet. The accommodations were fine. Clean and comfortable. Food was very good. Not fancy. Home style comfort food. Teriyaki Silver Salmon fillets, Halibut, Lasagna, Enchiladas. So much food. Nobody left hungry. The price for 5 ( actually 4 1/2) days fishing is very reasonable The new owner is planning a remodel during the off season to make things even better. Only surprise was that the property is surrounded by dense woods. So no classic waterfront view. For general information we decided to keep a 120+ pound Halibut. Per Alaska regulations you need a special tag called a GAF to keep a Halibut that size on a Guided trip. $500. We were surprised we only got 45 pounds of fillets from that fish. Split among multiple people and it pushed us all into a third box for shipping. Alaska Airlines baggage rate goes from $45 to $150 for the third box. Not worth the total price. This is in No Way the fault of the resort. I'm I'm seriously considering going...
