I will go 3 stars on this review - but please read whole review before you direct business anywhere else but Winding River. The place seems really nice but I had a poor experience.

First, parking was great and we were able to unload our kayaks right near the front door of the office and then we were able to get a ride to the mouth of the river. We rented 1 tube, and brought a few more tubes. My wife and I had Kayaks. I HIGHLY advise you rent the tube, or bring a really good quality tube of your own.

The gentlemen who loaded up our tubes was a little mean to us. He had that impression of being very passive aggressive with undertones of threatening. Very little communication, make you feel dumb the whole ride to drop off the tubes. He was mean when helping us load everything as well. He drove a little unsafe and hes not a guy you trust your life with.

The river itself is beautiful, but not very maintained. There is a lot of trash in there and a ton of pointy edges. 2 of my friends tubes popped pretty early on. The bottom of the river is very sharp and dangerous so we had to basically try and swim, float and walk back which was brutal. We are all cut up and hurt from this. It seems a bit unsafe so not have any means of communication on how to get back to the road or the campground. No one comes by in a boat to check on people or keep order. There is a lot of trash left all over the place for this reason. I feel as though a call signal or a way to get in touch with the campground would have been a safe idea.

When we got back, the employees were a little rough. Took a while to get some direction on how to retrieve our Kayaks from the lake, but once they explained it, it was easy.

I guess that closes my review. If you have a kayak and have some experience doing the river tour - its a great place. if you are new, or a kid, or cant swim very very and have a tube - I'd advise against this.

Please only see this review as my takeaway from the river tour. Everything else is...

My husband was called white trash by one of the “part owners”.

My husband and I brought 8 adults and 3 kids to this campground where we stayed two years ago and had a great time in the past so we were excited to have that same experience.

At one point, my husband and I needed to leave the site to go to a near by store. When I drove the car back to the site, I pulled over into a safe, out of the way area to get out of the car to allow my husband to back into the parking spot as I will be the first to admit I don’t know how to back up into a parking spot. A seemingly drunk woman started yelling that where I pulled over I could not park. I laughed and said “I know, I just need my husband to back into the parking spot because I don’t know how”

That should have been the end of it, but instead, she continued to yell and then my husband told her to “mind her business”. Then she runs over to my site and starts yelling at my friend while she was talking to her 6 year old sun and started to curse at her (I think she thought my friend was me) all while the car was now correctly parked.

This of course got every parent at my site upset as this lady started drunkenly yelling at this boys mom when she was not even a part of the situation which should never have become a situation.

She told us she is “part owner” and screamed that she was calling someone else over to help her and I told her “good, I would love to tell this story to someone else”.

The man speeds over in his golf cart asking what had happened and this “part owner” changed her story at least ten times and told him I said a lot of things that I had not said, including she kept telling him I was cursing at her which I would just never ever do.

We were almost kicked out over this, and I would never recommend this campground to anyone with children or to anyone who does not know how to back into a parking spot because you will be screamed and curses at in front of...

Horrible Experience, very crowded, Loud Music blasted over PA system until 11:45 at night, even after music finally turned off, the crowd of about 40 people were still very loud, this place has a lot of public drunkenness, and creepy guys Drunk holding beers, who sneak onto your site late at night to see what you are doing and if you are alone ,asking questions and as I was alone that night and female this scared me and upset me, I was afraid to sleep or sit by the fire , 7 Owners, run poorly, it's like children of the corn, a lot of seasonal people who are rude , tubing is horrible, large dogs off leash scary ,as they did not even ask to see shot records for my dog which is small, on leash and I feared for his safety, bathrooms are flooded and dirty. I would not recommend this place to anyone, I should have listened to the Horrible reviews for them all over the internet if you are considering camping here, pay attention to all the reviews and run in the other direction, Don't get me wrong I enjoy a beer and music, I was happy they don't enforce any of their rules, but a campground full of public drunkenness, Concert loud music, large off leash dogs, and rude owners is just not acceptable or relaxing in the least bit, while the site being one of top of the other, super close, it is just not a place I would recommended, unless you are just going to PARTY All Night! Then Yes this is the Best place for that... we will be staying at Hospitality Creek from now on much...

My family & I just stayed for a week here, I cannot recommend it enough! The campground is nicely wooded, with ample space between sites. The campground is owned by family who work and manage it themselves, and their love for it shines through! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and the campground is meticulously maintained. I absolutely recommend the kayaking, the Winding River is truly unique, but also a relaxing paddle. I love that the campground maintains it in a wild and natural way. My two kids loved the playground & pool. There is so much to see in the surrounding area - lots of hiking & biking trails, birding & wildlife! NJ is such an interesting mix of pines & oaks, with lots of sand. Winding River Campground is honestly the first campground I can say I would like to return to!

Winding River Campground is a kids and pet friendly, family owned and operated beautiful campground on the banks of the Great Egg Harbor River. Kayaking and tubing adventures are organized daily, they transport you up the river and you get to land right back at the campground. Kayaks and tubes can be rented if you don’t have your own. There’s a small beach along the river, fishing is a fun activity done at the bulkhead. The sites are very large, not crowded and your slide won’t smack your neighbors awning. Everyone comes, from massive Class A to the smallest tents. Most sites are relatively level and shaded. Highly recommend for everyone !! Large, clean pool Well stocked campground store, small arcade and pool table in the game room. Organized activities almost every weekend.

DO NOT GO TUBING HERE!!! It is horrible and not safe at all. The current pushes you to the side where there are a lot of little branches with spider webs and big tree branches you get stuck on! We saw 2 SNAKES on two of the tree branches we bumped into and were so scared of to keep bumping into. The tubes kept getting dis inflated. We tried to call for help but we had to finish it in order to be done with all the torture. There are no signs indicating where to go or how long we have left. No one is there to see if you’re okay or not, no help what so ever. Fell in the water twice because of getting stuck in the logs and the water was over our head! No one indicated it would be so deep. There was trash everywhere, do not recommend at all.
