First off let me begin this review with telling you that i'm somewhat biased to K's because my family have vacationed in Ludington at K's for a little over 40 years. I'm 31 and I think only missed 2 summers of going up to Ludington.||||K's was previously owned by Rose and Frank Kalina - who have since "aged" a bit and have turned over the resort to their son Tom. Rose and Frank are literally 2 of the nicest people I've ever met and I can remember as a kid looking forward to going back to their resort and spending time with them. They were always so fun and lively and great to talk to - and they ran a beautiful resort. While Frank and Rose made improvements every year, since Tom has taken over the resort and cabins have seen many improvements as well.||||Unless you're stuck with staying in a chain hotel or resort in Ludington (which there aren't many to choose from), I strongly encourage you to stay in K's. It's the ultimate relaxing "Up North" family vacation. I can't think of another place I would rather be during the summer or vacation I would rather take. ||||If you want to do a lot - there's a lot to do! Downtown Ludington is a short 4 mile drive (or bikeride) with all the major restaurants and the Ludington Beach. There's bowling, putt-putt, a nice movie theatre, bars, shopping, the Ludington marina and harbor, or maybe charter a fising boat for the day. Ludington is your typical tourist visiting town which is very lively in the summer months.||||If you don't want a lot to do, there's not a lot to do. Enjoy the peace and quiet K's has to offer! Nothing better then getting into a lounge chair outside of cabin 7 or in the lounging area at K's and just sitting - maybe watching the swans and ducks swim by, an occassional boat drive by, or just sit and read/nap/read.||||K's is on the middle bayou of Hamlin Lake. There is a no wake rule in the middle bayou so even if/when the lake is rough and windy, the water is always calm in the middle bayou. This is great for fisherman because if you're in another area of the lake you're kind of stuck on the rough water days. While being in the middle bayou it's always calm so you can always fish.||||K's resort is always full of really nice people and people mostly from the Midwest. As stated I've been going up since I was 7 months old and my family has been going up for 41 years. We have life-long friends from K's resort that we still keep in touch with and vacation at K's.||||K's is obviously family friendly and there's even a kids wading pool onsite.||||K's will ask you to bring your own sheets and towels - if you don't want to or forget he'll be happy to provide you with them for a charge (I believe $35.00).||||No phones in the cabins! This is a plus for us - when we get away we want to get away.||||Each cabin has 2 bed rooms with each room having a queen bed. Very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are pretty small to be honest but it's not anything you can't get used to in a day.||||Each cabin has a full refrigerator/freezer and microwave as well as a stove top burners. The cabin does come with cooking utensils and cups, ice cube trays/silverwear. Each cabin also comes with the classic 3 legged Weber charcoal grill as well as a couple lounch chairs and a picnic table!||||K's also has a complimentary paddle boat as well as offering pontoon and fishing boat rentals. ||||There also is a covered boathouse that you can rent if you bring your boat and would like for it to have a little more protection from the elements or you can clean your fish in this boathouse.||||What we've always done is gone to the local grocery store in downtown ludington and purchased a lot of the essential breakfast and lunch items - then go out for dinner. Lots of great choices to eat in Ludington. However one of our favorite things to do is stop by one of the fresh fruit markets and get some fresh items and enjoy them in the morning while sitting outside talking about what the plan for the day is.||||Our typical day was as follows: Get up and have breakfast. Go for a walk. Come back to the cabin and read a bit. Pack up the boat and go to the dunes on Hamlin Lake (around a 20 minute boat ride). Pull the boat up on shore and enjoy the sand dunes, have lunch, maybe a few beers, play in the water, etc. Around 4:30pm head back to the cabin and take showers. Everybody meets outside cabin 7 (where my parents have stayed since 1966) and we drink Coronas and eat cheese and crackers and oysters. Then we pile up in the cars and head into Ludington and have a great dinner. Then head back to K's and play board or card games. Time for bed then and wake up the next day and do it all over again.||||To wrap this up - K's is a must. I can't think of ever going to Ludington and staying anyplace else. I've had 30 years of wonderful memories and can't wait to...

Read moreMy family has been coming to this resort for 55 years. I, personally, have been coming here for 45 years. To our family, K's Edgewater Resort is the closest thing to heaven you can find on Earth! To begin with, Tom is the most gracious and helpful host that one could wish for. If you need help or information, he's there to help. If you want to be left alone, you won't see him. He makes the effort to fulfill each guest's expectations of him, personally.||||The property itself could not be in a better location on the most beautiful lake in Michigan. The Middle Bayou is centrally located on lower Hamlin Lake, an easy boat ride to anywhere on the lake, yet is sheltered from the wind that can batter locations on the main body of the lake. The cabins reflect the best in "lake living," providing creature comforts such as flat screen TV's and wifi, while not giving you too much of a reason to stay indoors. Because, let's be honest, it's the OUTDOORS that you want to take advantage of in Ludington. The screened in porches are great for late night card games, or for preparing your fishing gear for the next day's adventure. You can cook every meal in the fully furnished kitchen. Here's a tip - go fishing for crappie during the day, bring them back and filet the fish at the cleaning station in the boathouse, and then cook up your FRESH fish for the best fish fry of your life!||||Tom can rent you a fishing or pontoon boat, which will allow you to take full advantage of all that Hamlin Lake has to offer. Go fishing for walleye, bass (the smallmouth fight like crazy in this lake), pike, musky, and the aforementioned crappie. Take a ride over for a fun day at the massive sand dunes at the north end of the lower lake. Boat to Ludington State Park and check out the Hamlin Lake dam. Or just cruise the entire expanse of the 5,000+ acre lake.||||Ludington itself has anything and everything for a family to un-plug and have fun (the non-electronic kind) together. Great local restaurants, beaches, charter boat fishing on Lake Michigan, parks, festivals, and the two gems of Mason County, the House of Flavors (best ice cream in the WORLD) and Ludington State Park. Head to the State Park for the beach or the trails, then go into Ludington for dinner and a "Super Pig's Dinner" (more ice cream than a sane person should eat - but do it anyway!). Head back to K's Resort for a family game night or some late night fishing.||||It is impossible to express in the written word how much this resort has meant to my family. I even said I'd never marry a woman who didn't want to vacation there every summer! (It didn't take any convicing, once she'd been there one time!) Now, four generations of my family have spent summer vacations at K's Edgewater Resort. I could go on and on about this place, but I hope you get the idea. It's a special place, and if you come once, you'll want to come back again. And again. ...
