This building is unique and the decor is historic and interesting. The halls are a labyrinth of zig zags and confusing stairwells. However, it gives visitors a chance to explore the rich history of past presidents, first ladies, and historic moments in the country's presidential history. Rooms on the 3rd level add to the interesting architecture to make note of. The place is clean overall with comfortable beds, conveniences of mini fridge, microwave, and hair dryer if you desire those. Not a full five star rating though The staff at the time of my visit were not terribly compitant and that was disappointing. Upon checking in, I was told I had no reservation and it was not possible to look it up with my confirmation number. I was offered no solution and basically turned away. A simple call to Best Western customer service fixed it though. Turns out someone at the hotel previously checked me in although I hadn't arrived yet. When given the keys to the room, they were never programmed for my room. So after all that mix up, and running back and forth, I certainly wasn't impressed by professionalism and knowledge of the hotel staff. While waiting for the keys to be programmed, it was discovered the lobby bathroom wouldn't flush properly and it overflowed. I'm sure a simple maintenance call could fix that though. Speaking of maintenance, another guest asked the front desk to cut a small lock off her luggage since she accidentally locked the key in the bag. It was late in the evening and she wanted to access her stuff. He said all he had were scissors and they would break. He offered no other solution. She asked if maintenance had some cutters and he said no. Again, just leaving her without her necessities that were locked in her bag. He could have offered her a toothbrush and paste at minimum. The breakfast was a surprise. Since no other place I've stayed, for 300+ nights at over 15 different hotels, throughout all of the pandemic has had anything more than grab and go, I'd stick with grab and go items at this location too. There were too many guests trying to figure out where the coffee was, which there was no regular to be had. When guests were asking for coffee, it took three employees to try to figure it out. There was an empty coffee machine, an empty carafe, and an empty lobby table where carafes are usually placed full of coffee. I grabbed decaf from the machine and gave up on regular. The hot food items put out at opening seemed as though they may have been reheated left overs from the previous day or more. The hallways are ridiculously hot, thermostats reading in the 80's in July, but the rooms had nice cold air. Overall, it's worth a visit if you have patience with the staff and have your own food.

Well located next Highway 95 just south of Bangor. We were very happy as the beds are very comfortable, the rooms were quiet and the water pressure was really good so we had a great night’s rest and an enjoyable morning shower. For a hotel complimentary premade breakfast, theirs was excellent and one of the best we’d ever had. Lots of bacon. They had a very cool touchless pancake maker. Cons: The décor is very dated – we stayed on the 3rd floor that was decorated with a long row of first lady photos along both sides of the corridor hall – honestly it felt like something out of the Shining. There were odd sinks in the hallway near the elevator. The ice machine on the 1st floor was great but the ice machine on the 3rd floor didn’t work and on the 2nd floor did not produce a lot of ice. The spa is tiny and no children allowed and the swimming pool is not connected to the hotel but in the parking lot. We wish they’d start the breakfast at 6am on weekends – we had an adventure planned so we had to leave at 7am when the breakfast just opened so we missed that morning. Keep perspective – this is not a posh modern hotel. Once you get used to its oddness, the hotel is a good, more affordable place for a good night’s rest. We needed a hotel in Bangor ME for Labor Day Weekend – we checked the major chain hotels and the prices were all super expensive as it looks like they doubled their prices for the holiday weekend. Best Western White House Inn was the most affordable of what we could find. We noticed when we google mapped the hotel location, it was listed in Hampden ME as they are closer to Hampden but the Bangor address must be more desirable.

Clean, quiet, affordable, right off the interstate. Friendly helpful staff. Ginormous Buffet breakfast. The only issue I have, and this has nothing to do with Best Western, it’s people bringing their dogs in, thoughtless people with dogs, tugging all over the chain, knocking things over, making a mess on the floor, chewing dog biscuits while the owner is trying to check in. There is a time and place for everything leave the dog in the car until you check in, or better yet leave the dog home. Another couple brought their dog into the Jacuzzi room. No, I love dogs, but this was a large poodle type dog, well behaved, but took up a lot of room, and they tied him to the railing into the pool. Please folks leave the dogs home.

Convenient location to I-95 and I-395. Short ride to the main coast to visit the Maine Maritime Museum in Searsport. Also visited the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. Greeted warmly by the front desk staff. Felt welcomed. Spun a carnival style wheel to get additional reward points which was totally unexpected. We reserved a fireside suite on the second floor. Elevator available for luggage but during our stay we used the stairs as they were wide and very accessible. Open, carpeted stairs without the need to open doors. Good handrails. Room was very clean and well appointed. Bathroom was large with a closet (luggage rack, iron/ironing board. and hair dryer). Hangers could be removed completely (not fixed in place like some motel chains). Double vanity sink area. Plenty of toiletry items. Plenty of towels for our stay! Sink/dressing area separate from the toilet and shower/tub area. Magnified makeup mirror in addition to the large wall mirror. GFCI outlets on either side. The toilet/shower area was small but adequate for an able-bodied person. Not suitable for wheelchair or perhaps a very large person. Curved shower curtain rod. Low tub wall that made it easy to enter and exit. Would not be great if you wanted to soak in tub but fine for a shallow bath or bathing a child. Showerhead fine. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. Only grab bar was mounted to rear wall to lower yourself into the tub but no grab bar when exiting the shower. Get an accessible room if challenged. Gas fireplace easy to operate and on a timer. AC/heat easily controlled and responsive to self-contained thermostat (easy to set). Clean air filter! Isolated desk area with lamp, outlets, USB ports. Nice office chair. Keurig coffee maker and microwave in wall niche with good size refrigerator (no freezer). Large screen TV with easy to navigate remote. Beds were comfortable. Four pillows each (we had a 2 queen room). Convenient nightstand. Center one had drawer and underneath storage space. Plenty of outlets, USB, charging ports. Large lamp seemed to take up too much space and was fixed in place. Cubieblue clock. Gideon Bible in drawer. Set of 6-8 drawers in room. Also, a massage chair! Full view mirror outside of the bathroom. Plenty of lighting with convenient switches. Curtains were fairly darkening. Some traffic noise but died down during the night. We both slept soundly. Excellent breakfast room. Lots of cold and hot options. Well attended by attentive staff member. One morning, choice of sausage/bacon/corned beef hash. Baked beans, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs. Not to mention waffle makers, hot/cold cereal (instant oatmeal). Yogurt, fresh fruit, breads, mini muffins, donuts. Full beverage choice. Pleasant lobbies. Entire establishment very clean. Plenty of parking. We would definitely stay here again when in Bangor or vicinity. This trip we did not use hot tub, pool or fitness room so could...

My husband & I loved our recent stay here. Hotel was pleasant surprise from normal Best Western hotel chains. It was quaint historic hotel with excellent customer service & well maintained.

Location was ideal off highway & away from downtown high traffic area. We prefer to stay in a more quiet & less trafficked area. Hotel was next to Dynastar Restaurant & truck stop.

Hotel had some special touches not expected such as; super clean, comfortable mattress & bedding, large rooms, theming, BBQ grills, large indoor hot tub, chair lift access into pool & hot tub, delious cooked hot breakfast items, plus dog friendly. They even have walking trails to walk your dog.

I would have given hotel 5 stars. It was down graded after bad experience before we left hotel. I don't feel staff really cared to rectify the situation so beware if staying here with your dog.

We packed up our newly purchased pickup truck & parked next to entrance of dog trail. We walked our puppy Springer Spaniel then settled him into pickup truck cab with his breakfast . The windows were all half rolled down & our puppy quickly fell asleep after eating.

We went inside for breakfast & sat by window directly across from where we were parked.

The home next store to hotel garage door started to open 2 large Pitbull type dogs came running out. They made a bee line straight to hotel & trail entrance. No owner in sight yet. One dog flew down the trail. The other stood smelling the air then must of smelled our puppy. The dog's owner finally walked outside but made no attempt to call her dogs or get them under control. The dog that smelled my puppy began jumping all over our pickup truck trying to reach the half open windows. Scratching the truck's doors & side panels. The second dog returned & started circling our truck also. The dog tried jumping into the bed of the truck. We had a bed cover so the dog's attempt failed. But was successful at scratching / ripping the bed cover. At this point our puppy woke up & was visually scared. My husband eas making his way outside. The 2 Pitbull type dog's owner didn't care what her dogs were doing & went on the phone. My husband made it outside by this time. The dog's owner came over still not caring her dogs were circling our truck & damaged our truck. My husband asked the owner to leash her dogs / control them. The owner started yelling at my husband that she lived here & he was being hostile. My husband said, he'll call the police if she doesn't get control of her dogs. She then told, "my husband to go F@ck himself & go ahead call the police"

I understand this person & her dogs aren't part of the hotel. But be aware of the danger posed...
