This is only the second time we have stayed at a COE CG but once again we very happy with the site and facilities. This CG has approximately 56 back-in sites of varying sizes. You’ll have to see those when booking through their on-line reservation system. All sites were concrete pads that appeared to be pretty level and had a patio area. Ours was rock/gravel and located at the back of our site, housing the picnic bench and a fire pit. The 50 amp electric remained stable during the course of our two day lay-over and we experienced no problems. None of the sites are water and/or sewer connected although there are numerous water faucets around where one can fill the tanks. The CG is split in to two loops, one being closer to the river and offering some sites with uninterrupted views. This side appears to fill up quickly, hence the reason we took a site on the second loop. The roads are asphalt and allow access for big rigs (we have a 40’ 5er). Although adjacent to the railroad, during our stay we never had any trains pass by. The only trains we knew about were actually on the IA side of the river but didn’t cause us any disturbance. You are close to the IL84 but traffic is pretty light and the Cicadas drown the traffic noise. There is no wi-fi but we did find numerous OTA TV channels. The washrooms are a little dated but clean. However the showers did look grubby and we did not use them. A Ranger patrols the park for added security. There is a two lane dump station at the exit. We enjoyed our stay here and would happily...
Read moreMade a Memorial Day reservation for tent camping, we have a tent on top of our truck bed. Usually we don’t have an issue. We weren’t able to park anywhere near the spot. Would have had to set up the tent on the edge of the parking area with all our kitchen set up and everything, not near our spot and far from the fire ring and table. The owners tried to come up with ideas for us, but it was just inconvenient. I guess I should have booked a camper spot. It’s Memorial Day weekend so everything else was full. I was also asked to park farther from our spot because “people with actual tents will need those spots.” It’s a beautiful location. I’m sure with the right equipment it could have been a great weekend. I canceled because they couldn’t truly accommodate; I got back $18 of my $42 reservation and a $24 cancellation fee. :’) just some clarification on the reservation would...
Read moreVery relaxing. Great view of Mississippi River and the great Lock and Dam system. The water is at two levels here holding back the great MISSISSIPPI River as she turns West through the Quad Cities. Finding this location is east right off the I-80 corridor; that has been controversial over the years because it diverts traffic from the Illinois part of that "around the quad cities" Interstate System, at the last ILLINOIS exit is a fantastic river town experience of today's times, simplicity. Port Byron to the right and Hampton to the left.... Hampton has the fishing and camping with county Park and other places along the river, a few worthy establishments of food and drinks, gasoline, basic needs and some, maybe a bit less than Le Claire or Port Byron but of course it has a DOLLAR GENERAL!! And more nature possibilities to RELAX before you drive...
